Favorite Movies
Re: Favorite Movies
I couldn't care less about Hollywood but I had the TV on with no sound and Limbaugh on the radio while I swept and vacuumed. I thought movie stars were suppose to be pretty, I saw two that were pretty good, the rest average down to no interest at all.

At least you did something constructive with your time,

Was decent w/o a host (maybe they need to think ahead and keep that as the new tradition!) and got to see Brian May play guitar.
How the heck did Queen come up with Adam Lambert. What a joke.

He toured with them prior to Paul Rogers. Roger is one of the great voices, but really a blues/rock singer. Gaga in front of Queen would make more sense,

Re: Favorite Movies
There is a TV channel here that has old movies on all the time. A lot of 50's movies and I kept seeing this actress Gloria Graham and she was a star. I never heard of her but she must have been a big star.
Re: Favorite Movies
Same here. 30's-40's-50's and a few 60's movies.....we love it. We've learn to appreciate a lot of early stars that we never even heard of before, of which Gloria is only one. Many, many talented actresses and actors from a day when you had to be interesting and or good to carry a movie. Lots of turds too, but interesting to see early movies and the sights and sounds of that time period.

Re: Favorite Movies
I remember, as a boy, taking particular notice of Betty Grable. She seemed to be known for her legs (called "gams" at the time?), which she seemed never to tire of posing. She also had a cheery smile and countenance , liberally accentuated with layers of makeup, of course, as was the style at the time . Did she ever actually act, or was posing her entire presence ? I believe she was a classic 50's "actor," right?
Re: Favorite Movies
Yes she was a 40's and 50's actress, but more remembered for her pin-up glory days during WWII. Certainly not the caliber actress compared to many others of her day. I never knew any of these actresses or knew the depth of their talent and experience, until the past few decades.
(1) Gene Tierney
(2) Rita Hayworth
(3) Jennifer Jones

No special order of talent, but some very fine and entertaining actresses in the lot.

Re: Favorite Movies
..and I think many of them were true stars. Right? Joan Crawford and Bette Davis certainly were stars, IMO.
I am of the opinion that, in current culture, Meryl Streep is at the top of any list of stars and true actresses.
Ingrid Bergman had a similar effect on me, anytime I saw her grace a movie with her acting and presence. Class.

No apparent cellulite; no flab. Yippee!
And I love the knowing-look in her eyes. She knew what many men craved. And it, likely, was not her "acting ability."

IMHO there can be quite a difference between and actor/actress and a star. Some could be both.
Actor seems to be used today for both male and female. ???

Re: Favorite Movies
I have a bit of a problem with today's stars expressing their political opinion as much as they do and Streep is very outspoken. I know very little (and could care less) of the 30's, 40's and 50's actors and actresses in real life and only know their screen persona, but today actors and actresses have to let us know what they think. It's turned me off to more than a few.
