Why? Probably because computer stuff can make it more "realistic".

That might be one reason, but it it's just special effects, then it's all a façade w/o any story. It's more likely simple laziness and reliance on what others have already done before. The inability to make new movies that have not been made before would seem based on risk aversion while libraries full of good stories remain untouched. Recycle and recycle some more, but don't take any risks trying to do anything original.

Is new information available about the Midway battle? Or will only the names of the stars be changed?
I guess new actors will get new audiences. Why else remake Hawaii 50, McGiver etal.?

I'd wager that that the vast majority of audiences have never heard of the actors in the original Midway.

If a movie has Judy Garland in it, I get nauseated and barely watch beyond 5min. She out-poses even the best of the posers. And touching on an other thread on this forum, I just caught, on the News, a bit of film showing her in blackface as some kind of strutting show-off prancing seemingly endlessly back and forth across a stage. She easily epitomized the worst of that whole affront.

And yes, I could barely stand her in "The Wizard of OZ' either. Oh wait. This was supposed to be a thread about favorite movies. Oh well. Oivey. And the irony is, I drifted a thread I had started! There's no hope for us drifter types, huh.

Frank, don't worry about it. Roy is the only one that gets upset about it.

Just saw this also.

Disney Is Reportedly Looking to Reboot Pirates of the Caribbean "without Johnny Depp".

Disney is Rebooting the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Franchise

Some sunken ships should stay at the bottom of the sea.
One would think that a once-successful franchise that has run its due course, going from a fun and surprisingly well-constructed adventure romp to a mildly insane mythological fantasy to a parody of itself would be allowed to fade into the annals of cinema history, well-remembered as a series that perhaps overstayed its welcome, but that we enjoyed nonetheless while we had it.

I'm fairly sure this movie was "The Pirate" with Gene Kelly. One of the best from Pittsburgh who ranks right up there with Frank Mullen.
Although Gene Kelly was one of the best that movie was one of his worst.IMO.

Johnny Depp was in "Once Upon A Time In Mexico". I have never understood why.
His part could have been edited out and the movie might have made more sense.
I did think it was fun. I just ignored the Depp character.

You are an enjoyable fellow, Roger. I only wish we could have the opportunity to visit in-person again as we did that time at York. :D

I'm not sure that 95% of that movie could have been left on the cutting room floor, keeping all of the Salma Hayek parts,

"Desperado" is the movie to keep her parts from. In "OUATIM" she was dead.

Well, she is credited as being it all 3 of those movies; in any case, I am in favor of keeping all of Salma Hayek's parts :!:
