Well, I almost feel bad now, having doubted this bunch. They played with a lot of heart, more than I've seen any Washington Capitals team play with. Hats off to them...to have beaten Pittsburgh and Tampa enroute to the final says a lot. Many demons were slain last night...

You're not taking this well, dude, relax...open another can of varnish.

After the tables are up across the back wall, are we at back-drop time?

When we have 16 feet of tables along the back wall, we will be ready for the backdrop. Those surfaces are marked 1-6 on the diagram.

Do we put up the partition at 10 before installing the back-drop? Is there a section of the back-drop that goes on the partition?

Yes. The partition, which consists of 3 pieces of 1/4" thick masonite, will go up as the last part of these tables. It will need some prep - maybe scuffed with steel wool. I'm not sure. I need to check with the backdrop photographer.

Once it is up, we will put that part of the backdrop on it and move westward (toward the left side of the room). Most of the backdrop's bottom edge is at a height of 50". The exception will be in the middle with the river section.

I was wondering about that - the polished side of Masonite might be hard to glue stuff. I generally use the rough side when gluing stuff to Masonite.

The last few sheets I've bought seem to be tempered (hardened), smooth both sides. I typically buy it at Home Depot. I'm wondering if they sell the regular stuff anymore.

Interesting - I'll have to look next time I'm there. I do need a few 2'x2' pieces.

Updated 6/12/2018:

Well, the doctor gave my retina a clean bill of health - no tears!!!! So construction has resumed!

First, I am about 75% through the task of identifying and counting the remaining number and types (measurements) of 2 x 2's that I will need to complete the benchwork. When I've double checked this number, I will place the order and have them delivered. These will need to be shellaced.

Today's work was about attaching the remaining table to the wall and to its neighbors.

I can't recall where I read about this technique. I want to drill clean holes through the 2 ribs that form adjacent tables. If you clamp another board to them and then drill, you get a clean hole.

Here's the clean hole.

The two tables are fastened using a 4" carriage bolt, 2 fender washers, a lock washer and a nut.

Here are the two tables clamped together.

I used 3" drywall screws to fasten the table end to the wall support.

Hopefully, more tomorrow.

George,
I think I first heard of the clean hole method when I was building my first layout (HO) @ 70 years ago.
Nice to see it still works. :)

Dang, Roger, you must have built that first layout when you were four...
