Did that feel good?

I notice lots of misspellings, and I mostly couldn't care less. But, some are pretty funny. Like someone who spends much of their time with a piece of chalk in their hand misspelling "choke" as "chock". Is that homophone a Freudian gag?

Saw the Steven Spielberg movie "Lincoln" on Netflix over the weekend and it was a very enjoyable movie. Daniel Day Lewis made a good Lincoln.

I thought Day-Lewis' portrayal of Lincoln the best ever.

I agree with you, and Rex, wholeheartedly. IMO, his acting is so convincing that his portrayal of Lincoln has become how I now picture President Lincoln in my mind. The gestures, facial expressions, the slight stooping over, the apparent mind inside, all seem so authentic.

Also, the portrayal of Mrs. Lincoln seems authentic to what I have read and heard about her treatment of the President and her personal conduct around others.

"Hey, Mr. Cunningham. I said, 'Hey,' Mr. Cunningham. Don't you remember me, Mr. Cunningham. I go to school with Walter. He's a nice boy."

I would submit, for your approval, that the children knew exactly what they were doing, in that scene.

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of R. Lee Ermey, one of the funniest Drill Instructors.

I recently re-saw two movies that my wife and I loved from the first moment each was on the big-screen in a movie theater:
Alien (the first one): What we both agreed was a primary reason we liked every minute of this movie was that the entire thing was something neither of us could have imagined on our own: that ship, when the viewer first sees it, not knowing whether it was entirely mechanical, or vegetative, or a combination of both was genius. And that mouth-in-a-mouth detail, I'd never have thought of that detail. So cool. So very, very cool. And acid blood!? What the? So cool.

Next favorite is:
Big Fish (2003; dir. Tim Burton): Weird. Wonderful. And moving, though I am not sure why. That's a good part, for me, that it moved me but I have no idea why - not wheepy, tear-jerking moving, just somehow profound. And enjoyable throughout. Not a single tear, but a very deep smile.

So, I come to you guys. Anybody have any wisdom or viewpoints on these two movies? I'd love to hear.

I have not seen the movie "Big FIsh"

Alien was very suspenseful and when the alien emerged from the persons chest that was shock and awe. It got your attention.

But I actually enjoyed the 2nd alien movie more so that the 1st one.....

Big Fish is one of Burton's best films. The entire idea that someone doesn't really know a parent is very poignant. The "tall tales" his dad would tell were revealed at the end to have more truth than fiction. Great film.

Original Alien was jaw dropping on so many levels. Geiger designs, details, cast. My favorite scene is when the cat is looking at "something" and then it's pupils dialate to full black. You know something really bad is about to happen. I remember looking around at the audience on a second or third viewing and seeing so many people hiding their eyes with their hands and just peeking under their locked pinkies. More suspense than any other film I think I've seen.

Thank you, so much, Chuck, for your reply. It certainly was an interesting read, and it was nice to learn that somebody else felt the two movies were so good. I appreciate the feedback.

That emerging baby alien was a spectacular scene, no doubt. I think it was especially so because none of us had imagined such a thing before seeing it in that movie.

Perhaps, sometime, you will share with us why you liked the 2nd Alien better?

Today, I saw "Platoon" for the umpteenth time . It continues to amaze me with how well it wipes the audience's nose in the nitty-gritty and puzzle of the whole reality of it all. It continues to make me so sincerely grateful that a lifelong dear friend made it back whole.
