Thanks! I'd forgotten about the other actors in this movie like Sig Ruman who was also in A Night at the Opera as Herman Gottlieb chasing after Margaret Dumant; also in 2 other Marx Bros movies. And, Bela Lugosi!

BTW, Garbo is hilarious -- it is a comedy after all.

Thanks, HONDO, for those two clips. Her line, "You're very talkative" was cute, though.

Garbo's the queen of deadpan. Caught it (again) on local cable yesterday and it's a great movie for most of the actors. One of Melvyn Douglas's best early movies. Everyone clicked!

Just for FUN, here is an article from the WAPO about the Oscars over the past 42 years.

The Oscars always get it wrong. Here are the real best pictures of the past 42 years.

Not always according to the link you posted, but this has always been true to a great extent - what wins in the moment fails to have lasting power, and movies that are not even nominated go on to be watched seemingly forever. As usual, hindsight is crystal clear.

That's a terrific link, HONDO, so Thank You. And yes, it was fun to be reminded of all those movies and to consider the ones that did win vs, the movies that could or should have won. So many of them ARE winners, in my mind, that perhaps it is unnecessary to decide which is tops. Gandhi, Tootsie, Apocalypse Now, Platoon, The Deer Hunter, Midnight Express, Annie Hall, Hannah and Her Sisters, Dances With Wolves, Field of Dreams, etc. OMG, how can one decide? They speak to and from very different facets of us and of society, so I have enjoyed them all for what they are and have meant to our culture. :D

Gone With the Wind. I have seen and enjoyed several times, if just for that last Goodbye from Rhet to Scarlet.
Dark Victory. I just saw yesterday, for the second time in years.
Goodbye, Mr. Chips. I saw again a couple days ago and liked it even more (I guess 'cause I'm older, now - more reflective.)
Ninotchka. I watched up to the point where she returned to Russia. Eh.
Of Mice and Men. I tried but couldn't get into it, despite having read the novel in college.
The Wizard of Oz was entertaining every time I saw it , through the decades. (And since then, I have "clicked-my-heels-three-times" but could not go home again. :D

Of Mice and Men is a hard movie to watch, but 1941 was a pretty good year for movies,

BTW, I did finally get to see Bladerunner 2049. Not bad, too slow in some areas, but also rather intense. Jared Leto was just flat out creepy,

I liked a lot of those movies so much because I like to be whisked away by a good story and enjoy very much being ripped apart by them, when possible.

Currently. The Shape of Water seems to be getting quite a buzz, and its trailer seems intriguing and maybe even promising?

Does anybody here pay attention to "Rotten Tomatoes, home of the "Tomatometer" ? Apparently , Hollywood does. Even Spielberg has made comments about it.

Why is Of Mice and Men hard to watch? I enjoyed it.

Theirs is a consensus website. It very much pays to read a critic you like. I really miss Siskel & Ebert, who I watched from their Sneak Previews days on PBS.

Attention? No. Look at it now and again, yes. I'd rather formulate my own opinions as opposed to being told by others what to think or like.
