Not sure about that. OTOH, military service should be an important qualification for high office.

Not sure about that either......how many Presidents did wear the uniform in active service....

Too damn many people setting policy have never worn the uniform and don't understand what it means.

That's been true for over 200 years.

In contrast, Trump seems to worship the military and I ain't sure that's a good thing, either.

Well, he worships the ones that agree with him.......

"Not sure about that either......how many Presidents did wear the uniform in active service...." How many sat in a trench, smelling dead flesh while they listened to rounds whiz by their head? Probably None from the modern area.

As far as I know, George W. Bush never served in combat, even though he served during the Vietnam war. FDR is not listed, as technically, FDR did not serve in the armed services - but he did serve as Assistant Secretary of the Navy from 1913 to 1920.

Ford and HW Bush are the last Presidents with active service. I don't have a problem with folks elected who were never called. My problem is with, for example, Dick Cheney, five deferrments for "physical issues" then in his old age he's hunting in some fairly rough Texas scrub country. Apparently, no physical problems with his trigger finger, although can't say much good for his targeting.

My point being, a country shouldn't go to war without a full mobilization. Men and women who have actually served would understand this.

Just as an aside, would we really have wanted Cheney out there on the front lines
with his demonstrated targeting ability??
Take care,

Yes, he'd lose the war for us, PDQ.

He shot the commander in chief. Why would the military want him?

I guess...that and how many meds Nurse Ratchet gave you. Cheney got us into a war that will never end and made billions while doing it. I guess you can admire that as some sort of an achievement and that if he's lucky he will only land him in a perpetual commute between the 3rd and 4th circle of Hell

In most ways, Dick Cheney is the epitome of everything that has gone wrong with our politics.
