Question
Re: Question
Not Aug 1969, But July 20th 1969 we were with a group of friend at Lake Ming in Bakersfield in California water skiing. And listening to the radio as Mission commander Neil Armstrong and pilot Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. There was a big cheer that went up from all around the lake. What a fantastic and proud day to be an American.
Aug of 69 we were at Lake Havasu Az water skiing. We also got approval for our first adoption of a child

Re: Question
August, 1969.
Living in San Fernando Valley, California.
Working at Lockheed Aircraft, Burbank, Califonia.
Dating Dolores.
Typical date..
Ring, ring... "Hello?"
"Hi Wayne, Want to go on a date Saturday?"
"Sure."
"OK, Pick me up at 7:00 AM and bring a shovel."
Strange how life goes in circles.
Typical date August 2017:
Ring, ring... "Good morning, Ricky." (Telephones today give away who is calling.)
"Hi Wayne, would you like to come over for breakfast?"
"Sure."
"OK, be here at 8 AM... oh, and bring your drill, post hole digger, and 12 foot ladder."

Re: Question
Truly interesting replies, so far. Got more? Love to hear more - which seems like it would be a good thing. Right?
For me, here are a few points about August 1969:
Things I was not:
! a Hippie. (Didn't even pretend to be one.)
! a Yippee
! a Pot-smoker
! a NLFer
! a Vietnam warrior or Vet
! on the way to Canada
Things I was:
+ a regular NYC disco-denizen.
+ Graduated and preparing for first teaching assignment.
+ Not on the way to Woodstock, though very, very tempted, since it seemed like it promised to be "a happening". I had heard about it, but took delivery of my first motorcycle on August 19 and ended up driving in and around NYC all day long, and into the night, so I was one of the guys who missed Woodstock, though it was close-by enough.
+Trying to figure out the pathway ahead.
+ Still considering moving to St, Fidelis Seminary to become a Franciscan priest, having been on an extended "retreat" there.

To me, this is important news. Would you tell us some details about what that entailed and how you felt about what was going on across the country, relative to Nixon and Vietnam, for example, if that isn't asking too much?
Re: Question
2.5 months shy of 1st birthday. About to get a baby chimpanzee. Mom got one in sept. From a departing coworker. He got shipped off to Nam. Chimp lasted 2 days in our house I'm told. Dad went ape shit and got rid of him.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

Outstanding news, Robert!!!!!!!!!!!! I can only barely imagine the amount of mayhem and destruction an ape would have caused/perpetrated, NONSTOP, huh. Wow. And WOW again! Please do not leave us hanging. Tell us more, puuuleeeezzz!
Re: Question
I'm surprised that the post by Murph about "tribes" hasn't gotten any response.
It seemed to be pretty thorough to me.
I used some of those as examples when teaching as I talked to students about gangs.

Re: Question
I was real active in desert Hare and Hound motorcycle racing back then. We went out every weekend Saturday and camped out overnight. Raced on Sunday Trail rode with friends on Saturday. Loved it.
Got married about then to a very pretty girl, marriage was short lived. I was 26.
Working as a machinist and I was a functional alcoholic. Got sober finally when I was 40 and have been sober 34 years.

Is the "V8" in your moniker for "V8Juice," as your preferred beverage-of choice-nowadays? It is mine (when I can summon the courage to shove it down.)

I was at Morehead State University at Morehead,Kentucky. Several students that I taught in Ohio were at Kent at that time.
At that time I had taught 13 years in Ohio. With an AB degree I had reached the top of the salary schedule so I decided to get a masters
(MM) in my case and went back full time as a gradass.
Now how much more would you like to know?

Whatever was important to you, particularly as it related to what was transpiring throughout the USA in those days.
Re: Question
OK.
A little earlier when I was teaching near Springfield, Ohio not far away from us,and that includes Murph, in the town of Yellow Springs, yes there were,
was Antioch College. It was quite well known and well respected academically. They were the base in Ohio for the Freedom Riders.Persons that wanted to go south and take part in anti segregation ventures went through training sessions held here. I went to volunteer but was turned down because I had too many dependents. This was the second time I was turned down for that reason. The first time was in 1958 when I tried to enlist. So I quit volunteering.
I have always been a person that most politicians can't stand, liberal on some issues, conservative on some and middle of the road on others. I am still.

Re: Question
In August of 69 I walked on the bottom of the Niagara river a couple hundred feet upstream of the American Falls.
You begin flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.
