Re: Question

Seems that a movie that had a decent story and above average special effects has to be remade with computer generated effects and for some reason the story will need to be changed. I probably will buy it when the DVD is available unless the word is that it sucks.. The last time I went to a movie was to see either Anna and the King or Phantom of the Opera.

Butch,

Be interested to hear your comments on the film. Blade Runner the Director's Cut is running on Sci-Fi on Comcast tonight.

I'll post some comments without spoiling the movie. Going with my son who is even a bigger SCI-FI guy that me. We always see movies like Star Wars, Hobbit, Lord of Rings, Harry Potter and Blade Runner 2049, together, as the wives just don't appreciate them. In fact, those movies are the only ones I've seen on the big screen for decades. Anything else can be viewed at home and appreciated just as much and bathroom breaks are much easier to take.

Looking to see that one, too!!

prepare for disappointment. Remakes are seldom as good as the originals

Perhaps you should try to be better informed.

It's not a remake.

It's the sequel.

Oh, sure. A sequel. Distinction without a difference.

Well okay then. They are NOT going to ruin a very good original story and movie.

Hmmm.....well there you have it from Dr. Gumby.

Reviews are in:

Blade Runner 2049 feels like a movie decades in the making, something that we’ve been waiting for, anxiously anticipating to see what could be done and nervously peeking through hand-covered-eyes in case the movie didn’t meet our expectations. Blade Runner 2049 more than exceeds those expectations and is proof of how a sequel can be just as good as the original movie, even if released decades apart.

Good one Roger!

Based on the clips and trailers, I agree with Rex Desilets.

Well, I forgot which thread this discussion was on and only had a few minutes over the weekend to post my thoughts, so it never happened.

So, here goes. I would never pay to see it again and will never even watch it on DVD. Lightning did not strike a second time for me or my son. Mike tells me there have been Blade Runner clones or ripoffs since it was originally aired in the 80's, which I was unaware of, so this feels like another ripoff. It follows the storyline, but the direction they took is pretty far out. I doubt it does well at the box office, unless a new generator of sci-fi followers latches onto it and sees something I missed.

The storyline is thin IMHO, so it was full of other BS, including gratuitous female nudity, both in the form of holographic images 100 feet tall and live and too much CGI. The future, that was dark and dingy in the original movie, is even more so in this movie.

I missed Vangelis music, as what they used was just loud, although they did use some of his original rifts to try and tie the movies together. Had you never seen the original movie, this might have been a better experience, but not for me.

Where the original was fresh, fun and thought provoking, this one is just dark, nasty and paints an even more dismal future on earth. There are some thought provoking moments that would take you away, but not enough to carry the movie. Halfway through the movie I was wondering how much longer it would last. That doesn't happen with a good movie.

I came away feeling disillusioned, disappointed and consider it just a trashy movie...no doubt my age has something to do with my opinion. But, I love Blade Runner, LOTR, Hobbit, Potter, Bourne, Inception and other fun or thought provoking movies, but this was neither for me.

Two of my daughters & families went to see this travesty in which Rufus is invested. Their reaction best summed up by one daughter: a 3-hour nap. :P :P

She must have had lots of cotton stuffed in her ears, as it would be hard to sleep through that noisy soundtrack. :D :D :D :D

Invested in? No. Only people in CA have the means to invest in the movie industry.

Only been waiting 30 years.........and despite all of the initial glowing reviews, it appears to not be a big financial success. That does not surprise me very much since as with yourself, most immediately presume to condemn all sequels without actually ever seeing any of them.

I will still go see it to be able to make up my own mind.
