Well this is true. But there is some Mopac cars that are suspect as in accurate so study photo's and know your subject.
Do your research out of 12 items there are only 2 that I would bid on and that is a stretch.

As Many people know I am the guru of Mopac models. I have already pissed off one person that called me and asked what to bid on.
My answer was none of them. Not what they wanted to here.

I believe you said there was one more auction of this collection after this one, by the time thats finished a lot of O scale modelers/collectors budgets should be tapped out, clearly most items are selling in estimate ranges. just saying!

I really didn't think one collection could change the values of O scale brass and plastic models, even temporarily, but I think Jim's collection is doing this. Man did he have the "gotta have it" sickness bad. I can remember that feeling back in the 90's, but my budget never let me get in very deep and now, thank goodness, it just isn't that important to me. I learned you can't enjoy models sitting in boxes in the closet.

I quickly glanced at quite a few of the UP models and I noticed issues on several. The Challenger Imports GP-9 has a broken over exhaust stack and I doubt if it ends there. Buying from this collection either requires being on site or knowing someone who will be and is willing to let you know the true condition of the item you want to bid on.

I saw a couple of things I liked, but I would have to want something very badly to bid. If I were able to attend in person it might be different, but I will NOT be losing any sleep on this one. I noticed some small damage to some of the lots in the first auction like windshield wipers missing on some of the brass diesels and a bent pilot. It's always nice to be able to see stuff in person, and I don't think there is any return option, which you do have with a dealer and most Evilbait sellers!

I really didn't think one collection could change the values of O scale brass and plastic models, even temporarily, but I think Jim's collection is doing this.

I don't know if it's changing values or just depleting wallets....and that what stuff might normally sell for more just doesn't have buyers with ready money - spacing these events out a bit more might make a difference.........or not.

I am mildly curious as to what impact, if any, it will have on prices at the Nat'l in 2 weeks.

I am also seeing quite a bit more being listed in the same time period - guys looking to dump stuff to adjust finances? Routinely see this trend prior to the Chicago meet.....wave of brass for sale. Wish more would sell detail parts and trucks.

To those curious of the daily stock value of their rolling stock .

I helped close out and auction off a large bicycle collection when the owner passed, but it had to be done within 24 months of death date to settle the estate for the courts. The antique bicycle world is a much shallower pool than "model trains " in general so I needed to space out 3 auctions within the window of time in hopes that the buyers would refill their pockets for the next feeding frenzy. It worked very well for the estate to maximize the value of the collection and preserve the stable market place pricing . Theory being there is only so much money in the room at any one time .

I know nothing of the high end O scale world ....but Jim Seacrest from the posted videos of his layout and the now 3 auctions solely from his collection,
Jim certainly must have be a big player in the field for quite a while. Depending on his estate there may be a timeline to settle ..or the estate is such that ROR of his collection may not be the prime interest of the executor.

Fischer cars have always been expensive ....but how many Fischer cars need to be dumped on the market at one time to cause the bottom to drop out ?

When big collections in any field hit the public gavel... it can attract new interest to gain unique items that have been off the market for decades ..or a sign that the end is near dump now .

Buy what you like* and like what you buy .

I won't be making the National either, bad timing for me. A lot of reasons why stuff changes hands, so it's really difficult to pin down exactly why. The "better" model thing is one reason for sure! I can't say I've ever purchased something for it's box though! Bought a Reboxx or two when the original was missing or trashed. A box is important to me for identification purposes (what the model is and what options it has) and protection for storage and transportation. The biggest impediment to my buying, is Not knowing just exactly what has been made. After close to 20 years I still see things I didn't know were out there. It's all a big crap shoot.
