And on the subject of "big blocks of ice just like you kept in that oak ice box back home," I'm not that antique. In Pittsburgh, PA we did have actual "Frigidaires" which is what we,idiomatically, called all refrigerators, back in the 40's & 50's 'cause, I imagine, that's the brand everybody had. However, I did see an actual oak ice box in a farmhouse where I stayed while teaching in Strasburg, Austria, back in the late 60's.

Oh wait, now that I think harder on the subject, my maternal grandmother did have one for a short time in her big ol' farmhouse in Pennsylvania when I was a toddler. I stand corrected. I have seen such devices in real-life.

We had the big oak icebox on the back porch
It had a tank to put water in that had a spout on the outside to get cold water.
In the late 1930s the iceman came usually every other day except when it was
very hot would come everyday. He used a horse drawn wagon but got a truck
@ 1940. There were less than 10 Frigidaires in our end of town with about 500
houses. We got our first "Fridgerator" in 1946.

Do you really. I haven't heard that term used for refrigerator since I was a boy. It's nice to be reminded of that usage.

Might have been something along the walls from a prior use of the space that after being removed required patching and parging...

I just liked the captured scene and era. Never thought to create an interior that would have such a purpose. There's one for you to try out.

You're right, of course, it is an interesting interior, for sure. However, if somebody hadn't seen such a place, I'm not sure how acceptable they'd find such an interior.

For example (I'll try to take a photo later), a lone cape cod-style house sitting with its little yard smack-dab in the middle of a commercial neighborhood, complete with strip-mall and office buildings, would seem UNrealistic to many layout viewers, so I would not - have not - modeled it, not even for myself. Yet, it exists a mile+ down the street from me. Given the limits on layout real-estate, I try to be reasonable.

Have I made any sense to anybody at all ?
