Conductor?

I wouldn't want to mess with that crew.

Could be. Looks sort of young to be a conductor in those times when you worked your way up.

Perhaps....he and another have a badge of some sort on their caps.

I have to look up just what engine #11 was on the CVRR and get some idea of what time period this might reside within.

#11 was indeed an 0-6-0 - a Rogers built PRR class B-2 odd built in 1891, transferred to the PRR in 1920 where it was renumbered 3779 - do not have any info after that - probably available in the PRR records.

So, Rufus, what happened to the dude standing on the footboard? You did not blow him up like the others. I wanted to see the badge on Johny Reb's hat.

Given that it's an 0-6-0 with a slope back tender it's probably a yard switcher. The oil headlight dates the picture to most likely pre 1910 though 1916 is possible.

The gent with the stickpin is probably the conductor and spent a lot of time with a fist full of paper walking and reading car numbers. Holding the oilcan as a badge of office is the engineer, the fireman is the other guy in overalls sitting on the walkway. Both of those would have been fairly tough jobs. The other two guys are brakemen who would have spent most of their time on the ground throwing switches and hooking up glad hands when they weren't climbing the cars to set brakes.

Roger is right, they would have been a tough bunch.

WOW, what wonderful windows into the past. Very nostalgic. One can almost feel the rural atmosphere present, of a time long gone by..
