Take me to the river, drop me in the water
Push me in the river, dip me in the water....

Martin, the Tuscarora pictures have me a little confused. The town, today's Tuscarora, is in the southern Anthracite coal region nowhere near a river. Do you have any idea just where the two pictures were taken and what the modern name of the area is? I cannot rest in peace until you release me from my unremitting need for an answer!

A prayerful Tony

I know. Today is somewhere different......... I had thought that these might be more over on the Juniata River as that area is more where the Tuscarora that I know or knew exists as in the Tuscarora Valley RR of which there will be a few pictures later this week. That ran up to Port Royal where it met the PRR at the river. Tuscarora state forest is back along that area back over into the next valley from my place in PA east of Concord...

I like that. A posse of boys. One doesn't often see that in such photos nor on layouts. That idea I will implement/model immediately. Thanx! Of course, the building is wonderful, too.

Local mafiosos in the making..........

Indeed it is! Board & batten (Just scored several packs of that material this past Sat. at Timonium!), 4/4 windows (probably have some in the shop), upstairs living entrance to stairs on the right, porch railing, lattice trim under the porch, a screen door that I'm pretty sure that Grandt Line actually makes - all sorts of good stuff!!!

...even the 1/2-opened window and open inner door, open I assume for air circulation, are something I'd never have thought of - more real-life info! :D

Yup! Real details! Now I wish I could get that sign just a little clearer:

Ok. I'm glad you mentioned signs, the "Store and Post office" and the smaller one...
And I address this to all voices on MTJ who care to converse w/ me about this, in addition to our man Rufus.

See this sign here (how could you miss it!?) Well, I have guilt. Is it too large for the building and type of business? And unrealistic? Or do signs in various places like this more rural site occur this size? :?

I welcome all comments: laudatory; critical; constructive; rebuking; admonishing; playful; jocular, etc. (Did I leave any possibilities out? If so, go ahead and give your opinion, anyolways. I wouldn't have asked if I didn't feel I needed additional perspectives to my own.) :D Murph

Depends on location in relationship to a major highway vs. local traffic and whether the sign is really directed towards that highway. For example, the business could actually be a road or so off the main road but the sign makes it visible to the passing main road traffic.

Spotted it randomly in a pile of odds-n-ends in a shop in Maine many years ago. It turned up a again few days ago while I was rummaging through some boxes looking for some old photo's. I've been past this bridge a bzillion times when crossing the river on I-83...never connected it to the CVRR. I'd never seen any activity on the bridge so I'd presumed it was abandoned...then about a year or so ago I spotted a train creeping across while I was driving past.

It's quite the bit of engineering. I would have thought this was beyond the resources of the CVRR.

It's a nice card...very striking, at least to me. I recall my father joking that it was actually a photo of Miss Silvia Philpott of nearby Mechanicsburg, PA. Unfortunately for her, her boyfriend was a railfan.

Yup! The CVRR more than 100 years ago was a pretty robust operation and then towards the end was an outright subsidiary of the PRR, which then absorbed it totally after WW1. One of the older RR's in the country as well and generally credited with the 1st to offer sleeper service on pass trains.

CVRR Combine is now over in Strasburg while the "Pioneer" is at the B&O museum.
