Too early for this crap. It was 36 degrees when I came out of work today and rainin'. Forecast is we could get some snow too.

Damn Liberals were right, the earth is gittin' warmer. The damn trees are in full leaf in the dead of winter!

If you agree with the Progressives, it's freedom of speech. If you disagree, it's hate speech. There are no alternatives.

Mitch, LOL!
Hey junior, nobody had driven over that yet. That's where the dirt is, and there's grass that grows between where the tires ride. But we did start the stove tonight. Damn electric meter has been spinning so fast that we could feel the buzz in the woodwork!
Wood first, so there's enough hot coals to ignite the anthracite.

Pete,
One of us has got to stop changing our message.
I liked your first response better.
Now the horses are confused about your comments in the next post.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Wayne, I ain't conceding nothing.
That mule THINKS he's a horse, so I'm going along, right or not. Hell, everyone has issues, even you and me. No reason he can't have one too.
Ever since that mare got here, they've been inseparable. Look at his eyes. The picture says it all. He won't even acknowledge the female mule anymore, who's been relegated to hanging with the palomino mare.
But once that paint's in heat, and he finds out he's not only sterile, but he can't get it up, well then, he's gonna have to be undeceived, and it ain't gonna be pretty. Poor b*stard's gonna go 'emo' on us. But for now, I just don't see the harm in pretending.
They may think an equine needs to know his place, out there in the wild wild west. 'Round here, we show a bit more compassion.

While we are on the subject of mules and horses...
Horses tend to run from preditors and mules tend to stand and fight. There was an e-mail going around a few years ago claiming that a mule had attacked and killed a mountain lion. Pictures were included to prove the story.
Western Mule Magazine tracked down the mule's owner, Jody Anglin, who explained that he had already shot the lion and was surprised when his mule, Berry, moved in to make sure the lion was dead.

I believed the story about the mule killing a mountain lion. I thought the photos were pretty convincing.

Wayne, LOL, but I'm not exactly sure what's happening.
Got home at 0030 dog-tired, (I take some of my best naps while I'm driving), laughed at your first picture, tried to anthropomorphize them from the other side of the story, and went to bed. Got back up because I couldn't sleep when I thought my first version was over the top, and changed it. Now, I find you put up a different picture. Equally hilarious
!
I saw those pictures of the puma and mule back when. I had no trouble believing that he had actually killed a live one. We have a black lab that likes to take a run at them. The horses bolt, but the mules stand their ground and send the lab packing. They're cussed stubborn.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Pete,
I used to believe, "Mules were stubborn." After some research, I have changed my mind. (Naysayers will say, “Wayne, you have never owned a mule, or you wouldn’t say that.)
Interesting article on mule training:
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Mules-3594/2 ... -horse.htm
Remember the Great American Horse Race (1976)? Two mules took their owner and oldest rider in the race, Virl Norton, age 60, to the win.

OK.. I have never owned a mule, but I still think that, “Mules are awesome!”
I never did figure out why mules and donkeys stand their ground against predators while horses run. It is not anatomical. A little donkey can run just as fast as a horse. (Wild donkey herds have been clocked at 43 mph.) One donkey breeder notes that the horses run for joy while his donkeys always prefer to walk. Except at feeding time, where the donkeys will race and beat the horses to the feed trough.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Mary and I were listening to Etta James, but after reading your post we changed to Mississippi John Hurt. His final song will be "Make Me a Pallet on the Floor." A perfect mellow end to the day here in the Sonoran Desert.
Thank you Carl.
Thank you Carl.

Wayne,
That's a great picture. Can't wait to get to Tucson, going there the 29th of this month for a week to be with the grandchildren.
Will be moving there as soon as our house here is sold.

Darsenau,
You will be visiting during one of the months that we have perfect weather. Enjoy.
Your move reminds me of the time Hewlett Packard moved signal generator production from Los Angeles to Seattle. The people who moved with the company had a problem buying houses in Seattle. They had paid like $80K for their LA homes and sold them for like $800k. When they got to Seattle they could not find a house worth >$800k, and took a big tax hit on the profit from selling their LA homes. They would have had the same problem moving to Tucson.
If you are 55 or over you may qualify for a once-in-a-lifetime tax exemption on profit from your home sale. As you can see from the data below, this is a poor time to sell in Tucson, but a great time to buy.
