Amazon

Postby HONDO74 » Sat Feb 16, 2019 10:32 am

At this point I don't have an opinion about Amazon HQ2 and New York. Was it going to be a good deal or not for NYC ?

They pulled the plug they say because of a hostile political environment. Apparently after the elections NY has a lot of new young people that displaced the older members that were against Amazon with AOC leading the charge. Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio—two Democrats who rarely agree on anything—brokered a truce to put together a $3 billion tax break for Amazon.com Inc. that helped secure one half of a second headquarters. and now Cuomo appears to be really upset with his new Media celebrity AOC.

Amazon said they were going to hire 25 thousands workers at $150 thousand each.

It’s a big victory for a new generation of left-wing, constantly tweeting Democrats, embodied by U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from the Bronx.

Democrats in the New York State Senate nominated an opponent of the Amazon deal to a board with power to decide the fate of the incentive package. Suddenly, the Democratic electoral surge in the midterms had real consequences. With the ouster of Republican legislators, Democrats in the state Senate were newly empowered. They flexed their muscles.

But the political consequences of this fight shouldn’t be overlooked. The left wing of the Democratic Party has shown that it can scuttle the best laid plans of a governor, a mayor and one of the world’s most powerful companies. The question remains: What will this movement leave in its wake?

Thought this was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time; turn down a trade of 3 billion in incentives to get 27 in return, jobs, and development, and then to watch DiBlasio take the parting shot at Amazon was funnier still. And, it was not just the young newly elected gang; the older idiots all got into the same herd...

Immediate push back on this is now companies will see no good reason to move their companies into the NYC area.

But why would they ever in the 1st place? It never made any sense at all for Amazon to do this at all. They had 220 other possible sites to choose from and pick NYC. The location in VA makes almost as little sense. Not an area that needs jobs at all. There's no housing for 25,000 new employees within 30-50 miles. Traffic is the #2 in the country for time wasting.

Whole thing seems an exercise in foolishness by everyone involved.

This the first and last time you'll ever hear me agree with the AOC lefties. Putting the Amazon Hdq in Queens was going to cause some nasty results, especially housing. You only have to look at Seattle and San Francisco/Silicon Valley to see what the effects of high-tech behemoths plus restrictive building codes have done to housing prices.
This is an interesting, object lesson on going against the richest man in the world......

It’s BS. 25,000 workers. @$150,000 each.
My business is 5 percent of what it was in nyc. In the last 6-7 years it has gone to nothing. Yesterday I went to long island for the first time in the last 3 months. It took me 4 hours to get there and more to get home.
None of the business owners I spoke with were happy about losing amazon. They feel it will have an effect on other businesses choosing where to setup. Time will tell.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes
