The Alco PA

I cannot believe nobody here is interested in the new Sunset entry into the PA market. IO note that on NK there are maybe seven threads, all the way from Erik's Aspen to Sam's D&H. And nothing here.

Since I already have maybe ten PAs, ranging from all metal MTH through late Overland, with lots of doorstops in between, I won't be needing the Sunset, but still, for plastic modelers, these appear to be really nice models. For comparison, and to start this thread, here is a good shot of the real thing - copyrighted, but hopefully I won't get into too much trouble since it is cropped and offered for commentary:

Well, Bill posted those shots of that beautiful MP version so I wouldn't say no-one here's expressed any interest.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Sunsets in person, so far in pictures they look awesome.

I do especially like that early silver and yellow 2nd version that the DRG&W's sported for CZ service, though I did not know it was called the "Aspen" version or scheme.

Your photo shows one in the final single stripe "Prospector" scheme, running on the Yampa Valley Mail.

Bob, in answer to your question, I find the Alco PA butt ugly and wouldn’t run one on my layout if given one for free.
I do however have an E6 on order with Sunset which is actually quite pleasing to the eye!

Very nice model for the money, I would like to see one in person but with one exception looks great, not my era to buy but the screw on lower pilot shows a very visible break line in head on pics, the real PAs had a smooth unbroken nose line top to bottom. I realize this is a concession to 3 railers wanting an optional scale pilot without the large opening for the LC coupler. JMO

I Knew someone would chime in on the nose contour and beat it all to hell and back.

FWIW SSM Nose is just like the one Key did on theirs who use the actual prototype
measurements for the Nickle Plate from Doyle Mc Comikes locomotive from Alco,

So I guess Alco got all theirs wrong when the Built them.

If it bothers you just grind in off and re due it, or hit the delete button and move on.

Sarge - that is exactly why I posted the DRGW photo. Good catch. I can find very little else wrong with it - except that it is in lifetime plastic.

I was hoping a few PA photos would show up here. You have seen all of mine a bunch of times.

That's why I didn't bother earlier and shouldn't have bothered now.

I could go through the effort of reposting your head-on shot and any of many head-on shots of the prototype windscreen, but why bother. I think instead I'll follow your sage advice.

Kind of like do you prefer Ford or Chevy..... EMD or Alco or later on GE...Maybe FM could be your Mopar..
