Cameron Scale Models

I was perusing through a 1992 issue of OSN and saw an announcement and pilot model for a brass flat car by Cameron Scale Models and wondered if anyone had seen this model or owned one?

Doing a google search, all that came up was a "localbiz" website listing that made it appear this company might still be in business in Peoria, IL, but these type listings are often wrong. So, I was asking here before making a call.

My interest is a specific UP 52'8" flatcar displayed in the OSN "new products" listing. All brass construction and a wood deck. The model shown had no deck installed and the detail was simply incredible for that period in time. Interested in locating one if it was ever built.

Any comments?

Cameron Scale Models “factory finished” or shop finished in correct DRGW.. one of my favorite models. I have another that is unfinished with the wood deck in pieces ready for paint. Soooo... yes I think they did make it to production. I’ve seen others for sale over the years also.. should have bought them.

Chip Rovetta bought this car at the March meet back in the 1990’s new from the builder. I finished the car with a load of JD’s.
I can shoot more detail if you need I just shot it on the bridge the other night.

Thanks Erik, beautiful car and it's everything I expected it to be. In the "new products photo" , it appeared all the individual braces and most underfloor detail was there....is that the case?

If you have a Cameron Scale Models item number you could send me I would certainly appreciate it. This might make it easier to locate one. Looks like an outstanding model.

I want to say his name was Rick. He cast cars for Ted Schnepf back in the 90's. He also released his own models. Ted would now if he is still around.

Did they do a vinegar car? The prototype was basically a long wooden tank. I remember Si giving me a bunch of parts, including some etchings, for a vinegar car. He also gave me a small catalog (pamphlet) with various brass freight car kits. Looked like there were possibilities for some nice cars. I gave all of it to Tom Peterson. When I see him at OSW I'll try to remember to ask him.

Ted Schnepf (Rails Unlimited) did do a coffin style pickle car.

Only vinegar car (non-kit) that I am aware of was the Heinz one from Overland; also did a coffin style pickle car.
