It's no wonder higher education cost so much money......
Biden says he was a professor, but didn’t teach a single class for nearly $1M gig
Biden was an "honorary professor" at the Ivy League school from February 2017 to April 2019

The president was speaking at the Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque about his student debt relief plan and as part of a four-state, three-day campaign swing to support Democrats in competitive races in solidly blue California, Illinois and New Mexico as well as battleground Pennsylvania.

Thursday was not the first time he brandished his supposed credentials as a former professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

After leaving the White House, Biden was given the title Benjamin Franklin Presidential Practice Professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

Biden's claim to have been a professor has been looked into previously, with Snopes determining in April 2022 that "this role was honorary." While Biden held the honorary post, he made about $900,000. He gave roughly a dozen lectures and talks but never taught a full semester’s course. Nor did he conduct any research or have any administrative responsibilities.

At the same time, Biden held the honorary Franklin post, Penn also named him Senior Fellow at the Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy.

After launching his presidential campaign in April 2019, the university released a statement saying he would be taking an "unpaid leave of absence from his work at the Penn Biden Center."

The highest paid employees in ~40 states are football coaches. Everyone else at a university or college gets paid next to zip.

The biggest revenue producer among college sports is no surprise: It's football. College football brings in an average of $31.9 million per school per year, financial website Zacks.com reported.

And very little of that income goes to support actual education.

But there are many low income families whose child gets to go to university on a scholarship to play football that wouldn't have the chance to go without it.

I"m not saying that coaches should be paid big bucks. but how much did Biden make for the school for the million dollars he received for doing nothing.

That's been the old song & dance for decades and even the universities stopped singing that tune anymore; even they know it's just not credible - the harsh reality is that they bring these kids in to make money for the U, and if they are lucky, they keep them for more than a few years. Maybe the guys not getting the contracts get an education....but I'd wager that they spend a lot of their 4 years not going to school and getting an education that serves them for the rest of their lives. And, why do we accept sending kids to school for a education based on sports at all? If it's really about education, what about all the kids from low income families that actually have the scholarship chops to get an education on that merit? The priorities are totally skewed.

I"m not saying that coaches should be paid big bucks. but how much did Biden make for the school for the million dollars he received for doing nothing.

I have no idea. But I'd bet they charged to be in the room and that access was not petty cash. And, I'd also wager that that million was funded privately - pretty common action to get special positions funded through direct donations or other outside funding source - probably was completely outside the actual university education budget.

Penn state pays their football coach 7 million a year and they dance around it. They claim his salary is " half a million" He gets 6.5 million in bonus money. A good football program is national advertisement for a university. I think back 5-10 years ago. People were calling for a football minor league. This would have kept kids out of universities and colleges. It would have removed a lot from the payrolls. Somehow they got the NAACP to say " That's racist you want to keep our kids out of college" The whole plan was dropped pretty quick. Football pays the bills for all other sports. Penn state has 84-90 football players on scholarships. NCAA. allows 85. It's a grey area as to why they are over. Most likely with a sharp pencil they're not over. Fourteen football players graduated last year. They have 123 players a year. I don't know if you graduate in the 5th year and don't play football if they still call you a football player. 14 out of 123 is not good. even if you break t down to 4 years of classes playing. that would be 30 kids. you could spin it to only 50 percent of the senior players graduated.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

Not really - they actually announced his 10-year contract last year that goes through the 2031 season and that it is worth $7.5 million per year, plus incentives and a $1 million annual life insurance loan. If he’s fired without cause, he gets the remaining salary plus loan on the contract.

I think there is way too much emphasis on sports and not enough on education. But then sports is a multi billion dollar Industry that provides millions of dollars in wages and wealth for a lot of people. Even some sportscaster are now million dollar babies.

I'm past thinking there might be; just saw that there are 2 more coaches singing contracts in the $8-9 mil/year range.

I'm glad we're past the pretense that this has anything to do with education.....

But that does of course raise the very real question of what are actual qualifications; most are tied to little more than residency and age.
