Everyone is buzzing about how the Queen feels about Prince Harry marrying a divorced American.
Of course I know who the Whatzit object really belongs to. If I said, "6", would I be giving it away?

Maybe, and VI might be better, but you sure would be clever and well-informed, too!

It's the last of the papal coneheads, worn by Paul VI.

And I do not know or understand why it is preserved where it is.

I'll be curious to know if that's a helmet, a crown, or both...

I am very curious to know how you ever put that together, involving the "6" . I ask that because it is the designation I used for that file on my computer.

It was sold to feed the poor.
Near the end of the third session of the Second Vatican Council in 1964, Paul VI descended the steps of the papal throne in St. Peter's Basilica and ascended to the altar, on which he laid the tiara as a sign of the renunciation of human glory and power in keeping with the renewed spirit of the council. It was announced that the tiara would be sold and the money obtained would be given to charity. The tiara was purchased by Catholics in the United States and is now kept in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. It is on permanent display in Memorial Hall.

I do not have access to your computer. I am well aware that many of your Whatzits are related to the Catholic Church. When you offered the second clue and I saw the first layer of a Papal Tiara I immediately went here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_p ... _existence and found it listed as #20. Number 20 belonged to Pope Paul VI. VI is 6 in the Arabic numbering system we use. I did not think "6" would give it away and you could keep it up for a few days before revealing what it was. Then Roy got it immediately when he saw it was a triregnum.

It would seem the answer is $0.00.
Tiara given to the United States
Pope Paul wore his tiara a number of times in 1963, before, in a dramatic act in November 1963, laying it on the altar of St. Peter's Basilica in a gesture of humility to symbolise the papacy's surrender of any claim to temporal power. He never wore it again. It was announced that the tiara would be sold and the proceeds of the sale given to charity. However, Francis Spellman, Cardinal Archbishop of New York City intervened and arranged instead for the tiara to be bought by the Catholic Church in the United States in 1968.

Spellman's Surprise: Pope's Tiara Is Here; A Gift to Cardinal, It Will Be Shown in U.S. for Charity
The New York prelate disclosed that the Pontiff had given the tiara to him as a token of gratitude for the vast sums of money raised by American Roman Catholics for the relief of the destitute overseas.

That's what I figured, which is why I posted a smile in response to your putting the "6" in your reply. However, I just had a nagging doubt that took me further down the road of your prodigious powers, so I much appreciate your granting me the dignity of an explanation, here. Thanks again, Wayne.
