Apparently most people do not think that. If they did church attendance would be even lower.

Perhaps you are both right, considering the history of the world and considering contemporary atrocities committed in the name of whatever.

Contemporary? Atrocities committed in the name of whatever have been the norm since the dawn of time.

Of course not, but those are examples of recent history.......... Humanity has always been butchering itself in the name of gods.

Did the Eskimos wage war or kill for religious reasons? I don't have an impression that they did.
How about Buddhists? I don't recall ever having learned that they hurt others to extend the reach of their beliefs.
Have there been other non-violent zealots and/or believers?

P.S. Somewhere along my road, I "learned" that the Buddhists do not consider themselves a religion; rather, as a way of thinking and self-discipline. I also heard they do not step on insects, preferring to let them live.

I had thought of Buddhism, but also then as victims of others.... Eskimos? War? Seems unlikely, but killing, probably......

The Rohingya are Muslim invaders from Bangladesh

During the more than 100 years of British rule (1824-1948), there was a significant amount of migration of labourers to what is now known as Myanmar from today's India and Bangladesh. Because the British administered Myanmar as a province of India, such migration was considered internal, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).

The migration of labourers was viewed negatively by the majority of the native population.

After independence, the government viewed the migration that took place during British rule as "illegal, and it is on this basis that they refuse citizenship to the majority of Rohingya," HRW said in a report issued in 2000.

This has led many Buddhists to consider the Rohingya Bengali, rejecting the term Rohingya as a recent invention created for political reasons.
