How about a sign in front of the church? "Beer is proof god loves us. Help move piano and see gods love".

Not in this county.

Not really. It's just an example of a long history of religion governing Pa. Pa used to have blue laws, too......and some still exist but were ruled unenforceable.
Franklin county is not dry, but...........

I know about the blue laws. I remember Thrift drug store in town. On Sundays they would have 2 blue ribbons from the front door back to the pharmacy counter. Only thing you could buy were meds. Then it went to soap, milk, toilet paper, to 24/7 365. In the link that failed it say " some dry counties don't sell but you can use beer and wine. You still can't buy a car here on Sunday.
With the separation of church and state. I think you can fire up that church key and get the piano unloaded.

Does Pennsylvania still use State Liquor Stores to sell hard liquor, and nowhere else can do so?
Re: Structures & Scenery
Yes Murph. But times they are a changing. You can buy beer and wine in other places. If grocery stores have a food court. They can sell beer and wine.

Re: Structures & Scenery
Interesting to learn, Robert. And yes, the times sure have changed. My childhood neighborhood, composed of rock-solid (literally) houses is still the same, but it isn't. The houses continue to stand, inviolate, but every occupant of every one of them is gone, forever. I have thought of making a trip homeward this Summer for a dose-of-nostalgia tour, but Google Maps, "Street Level," seems to be enough. All that was important, for me, in that neighborhood, has been taken with me, inside my self. I don't need to visit what is, for me, an empty shell.

That garage under the house must have been a lot of fun going in and of out during the winter

Yes indeed, HONDO. After a while, I just gave up and either sat down or crawled when wanting to access the house (middle picture, middle house) from that entrance (house on the left.) Sometimes, even getting the 54- Merc out or in was a challenge if the driveway was too icy, so we would simply stay in until the sun did its job on the snow. BTW, my father built that entire front porch, including the excavation for it, with his own hands. Inside, under it, he established for himself a workshop in which all his power tools were housed and used, such as a jigsaw, lathe, power-drill, electric sander, and tabletop saw (the actual, proper names were likely different from what I recall, now, 60yrs later).

Fabulous, Rufus. I can see you had fun, all along the way.
I especially like that there is an apparent unspoken, as yet, dialogue between the two men, the proprietor and the boozer. The barber knows the other guy is out there, somewhere, likely, but just hasn't seen him yet. The boozer feels safe, for now, in his seclusion.

Indeed. As long as he's around the corner and not in plain sight, he is tolerated. That aftershave is a tough going though......

Perhaps. That side of the barbershop is adjacent to the funeral home; the other side is towards the church. A full life cycle.....
