Hobo Jungle
Re: Hobo Jungle
Wayne,
Whose model?Yours?
I like the cactus and woodpecker.I remember seeing similar scenes when I visited Arizona that were not models.
Where did you [or somebody] find the woodpecker model?
A cool model of a hot scene.Love it.

Re: Hobo Jungle
I had a Northern Flicker that used to drum on my old outdoor TV-antenna, usually in the spring of the year. Unfortunately the antenna was mounted on a sixty-foot piece of galvanized pipe, the bottom of which rested against the vent-pipe for the basement oil-tank. The amplification he achieved via the sheet-metal antenna, sixty-foot pipe and 250-gallon oil tank was extraordinary.
He would turn up every spring, hang around for a couple of weeks, then head off to where-ever it is that Northern Flickers go. A couple of years ago I finally got rid of the old antenna, and conveniently the Northern Flicker. Later that year one of my neighbors revealed he had a bird beating the hell out of one of his aluminum downspouts...I said nothing.

Coutesy of Wikipedia, the Northern Flicker.

Yeah, Roger, but if the GP9 is scale, the friggin' woodpecker is as big as a pterodactyl!

Roger,
Yes, my models. I threw the scene together by shoveling some sand from under my outdoor layout table onto the table and spreading it around with a brush. Then wiggled the track and cactus model into the sand. Placed an engine and caboose on track and snapped photo.
Cactus/Woodpecker came from the drugstore. A few years ago they sold them as Arizona Souvenirs.
It was hot today, 122 °F inside storage shed, 134.9 °F on the train table.

The above thermometer is not calibrated but compares well to one I calibrated in an ice bath and steam bath. I think it is accurate.
Mitch,
You are correct (as usual) the Pterodactyl was about the same size as the woodpecker on my cactus model. I had to look it up because I thought they were even bigger. (One pterosaur rivaled a giraffe in size.) A scale size Gila Woodpecker would have to fit through those nest holes below the pterodactylpecker.
