An overhead electric trolley system for heavy-duty trucks will be installed by Siemens near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California.
The engineering firm said it was selected by the South Coast Air Quality Management District to install the two-way, 1-mile demonstration “eHighway” system.

Mack Trucks is developing a demonstration vehicle for the project, and Siemens is supplying the technology that allows trucks to connect and disconnect from the catenary system at any speed.

I wonder what this will do to ground level ozone? A charge on the fly system would be great. How would it be shielded from northern weather? One accident and the system goes down. I guess disconnect and move on. There will be a lot of growing pains.

Thought that was already in use in Europe?

In use in tests.

The eHighway pilot program has been running in Lübeck, Germany now for almost two years.

The 2016 tests in Sweden concluded in 2018. Ever since then politicians have been arguing about it.

Lübeck was the one I was probably thinking about
