Re: Seen in Print
You're going to have to bump that $4 price up before too long. As for the coffee, I'd just as soon Dunkin' Donuts, and it doesn't cost a Fin!

Hate is way too strong a word. I do have serious doubts about their taste buds and economic sense.

I have a friend that has made a living in coffee. From bean brokering , shipping, roasting , automated packaging. and design of a one way valve for packaging. Starbucks tried to hire him in the early days. Back when they were only in the Pacific Northwest. He claimed they had the worst beans and would over roast them for different flavors. When he speaks about what ifs. He say " They would have fired him a year into the job. He would not have agreed to any of their coffee choices." He claims " they made all the wrong coffee decisions and all the best financial decisions you could make"

It was around 10 years ago they put a Starbucks in our local market. I said it wouldn't last 6 months. I was wrong it is still there and doing good. I guess those high priced drinks and other crap they sell pays the rent and provides some young people with jobs
I was there one day shopping with my youngest grandson as I was standing in front of it looking at the menu. He says you going to get yourself a Starbucks coffee. No I will get indigestion.... He says Starbucks coffee give you indigestion... I said no but if I have to pay that price for a cup of coffee I am going to get indigestion...
They have a little eating area right behind the bar with free WiFi. I never see anyone sitting in there and the magazines are next to it. All I see are women and girls carrying there drinks out to their cars.

In Philadelphia. Starbucks had to change their bathroom lighting, due to their open door policy allowing anyone to use their restroom. Junkies were coming in by the dozen. Shooting heroin and passing out. simple fix. They installed dim blue lights. With the blue lighting junkies can't see their veins.

Those are their best customers. They don't know what they are drinking.

More PIG WISDOM,
Dealing with leadership.
So what do you do if you find that you have encountered a situation which, if you are not careful, may have you wrestling with pigs or worse yet already in the mud? Here are some suggestions:
Rule #1 – Don’t go anywhere near the barnyard. If it looks like a pig, smells like a pig and acts like a pig; it is a pig.
Rule #2 (Assuming you ignored Rule #1) – Wear old clothing. Don’t come to the first meeting in your new suit. In other words, don’t reveal everything you know. Let them think you are a pig too.
Rule #3 – Hose yourself off frequently – After each encounter review your purpose and your goals and decide if another meeting is going to accomplish anything.
Rule #4 – Know when the stink won’t wash off – Recognize when it is time to walk away. As Kenny Rogers sang; “you got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them.”

Very interesting! I don't know much about coffee other than if I like the taste or not. That said, my late grandmother (lived on the Eastern shore of Maryland) used to make coffee in an old metal percolator. Smelled out of this world, and I've never smelled any since that had that aroma when it was brewing. I was just a kid, and never drank any, but if the aroma meant anything, it was fabulous. Just a guess, but I think the water there may have been a big factor, in that it had very few minerals to affect the taste. One could likely replicate that with distilled water. I'm guessing the brand of coffee was "Eight O'Clock", which was one of the old A&P store brands (still available). The old percolator pots can still be had, so one of these days I might purchase one and give it a whirl!
Cheers!

2 more fun facts:
Given sufficient thrust, pigs are surprisingly aerodynamic
A one legged pig can be surprisingly nimble
The signature quote is btw is attributed to Heinlein....

Starbucks is the worst value of all and I hate to get ripped off. What I wanted to post is I don't get people waiting in drive up for anything. wait a long time idling the whole time. I always park and go inside.
