I had come to think that that put-upon, bored look on that older boy on the far right was typical of contemporary times, but from his demeanor, captured and preserved there, I can see its been around for quite a while, that head cocked to one side, probably accompanied by a sigh or even a "Sheeesh!".

Interesting, the right side must be an addition (or the original structure), note that the roof shingles are different, the clapboard siding does not line up with the left, and the windows are different. A great model for Rufus to build. But the entrance walk lines up with the center of the building's front. :?

J.S. I admire your eye for detail. I had not noticed that at all, having focused on the people and the house overall. Really sharp of you to catch that the roof shingles, etc. indicated an expansion to the house. Really cool of you!

I think that they made it a duplex? Two front doors, side by side. Possibly an expansion for a family member?

Thank you. Yes, but expanded which way? I suspect that the right side might be the original. The windows look like an older style, the roof shingles look older and not as neat, even the chimney looks older. I wonder if this structure still exists.

Rufus,
Nice Wild Mary 4-4-0s. They have a simple elegance about them, especially No. 23.

...a real-life "Bobber," if that's the name for such a caboose? I never saw a real one and wasn't positive they existed outside the hobby.

And the young, jauntily dressed fellow who perched himself atop the very front of the locomotive seems quite the self-possessed dandy.

Today none of those "dandys" would be allowed that close.

I went back and looked in my archives and found what I think is this same derailment recorded in a photo from a complete different angle - might be back many pages or lost in the other thread.

Might be an addition accommodating Dr. Zook's practice. I've always liked the look of Dutch lap siding, often referred to as "German siding". You see a lot of it in Pennsylvania and north-central Maryland, areas settled by numerous German immigrants. It looks a lot tidier to me compared to the clapboard siding of New England.

Is that a Western Maryland wreck? I don't recall reading of any mishaps involving one of their Lima compound Mallets, but it's an interesting photo nonetheless.

Chewsville, Md - No 913, is what the other card was labeled.
