Then again, I love the whooshing sound deadlines make as they fly by..........while I ignore them, like I am right now. Just cannot get myself motivated to reach over, open the folder, and look at the manuscript that I probably should have rejected.

I guess I'm too OCD or well-trained or whatever. I can't ignore deadlines. I've learned to explicitly reject them as crazy, but even that was an effort.

And there has been, since I retired in 2005, an immediate and growing sense of freedom, freedom to relax and take pleasure in all that life has earned and become. I don't wear a wristwatch any further, though I must admit I check the clock in the car from time to time, to make sure I don't keep anybody waiting (good manners are still top on my list of obligations.)

I had to learn to slow down. The need to rush about has all but disappeared entirely, now.

And occasionally, I come to contemplate that there are far more days behind me than ahead of me. Thus, I suffer very little nonsense in my life, largely ignore fools, but try to be kind to them, and do take the time to smell the roses (before they are planted atop me. )

Basically, I am free.

Oh, and P.S. , I don't even go to the TCA Meet @ York, PA any more; basically, because I don't need to or want to, for any reason. That's finished for me, too. All of it was good - very, very good - but enough became enough.

So here is what I learned about the back drop process so far.
Read ALL web site information before ordering. There is likely something in there that you'll wish you would have read when you have the back drops in hand. That is the time that the rubber hits the road and you start processing all the possibilities good and bad.
In my case I opened the box and on top were the dreaded instructions. About half way down it says "we recommend going over Masonite or unpainted surfaces". Well everyone knows before a train ever comes into the room the walls are painted sky blue. I'm sure somewhere on that website it says this. Hence my point about reading.
Moving along I contacted Dave at Backdrop junction who has been outstanding by the way. He says to put up a new piece of Masonite. Well that might be okay if I hadn't bent the current ones into curves and feathered them into the drywall with tape and drywall mud.
So I share my concerns with Dave and he suggests that I go with a fabric backed back drop that will bond to paint. The conditions, however, are that I do a review of this new backdrop and it will be an even swap.
I'm assuming this is a new product that will bond to paint as I'm sure he's often encountering this.
In the process I had a chance to clip up a section and take a few photos. Wow! It's true, if your a planner and can map out every detail of your pike you should do this first. It really takes your scenery to the next level. Sorry for the book Rufus!

The artist visited tonight and made some more progress on Backdrop #4.

If your a planner than installing a pre done back drop could be the way to fly with nothing up or in the way of the install.
I'm processing the install in tight quarters and it's a little worry some. The back drop will need to be cut to fit some plaster mountains that are already up. You only get one shot and if it goes well it would be instant gratification.
Painting would have a huge advantage here and if you mess up, well you can always repaint. Working small sections would make it more manageable and could change according to your layouts physical attributes. This would make everything look like it fits.
One section of the back drop I selected has a fence and a building off in the distance. It doesn't bother me but if I could have the option of removing it, I would. Just my 2¢ worth.

I agree that painting is a huge advantage and that's what I plan to do for the next future version of the PRR Panhandle. I also intend to do things correctly and in order (huge list of lessons learned ). For example (and in order):

• Train room electrical circuit installation or enhancement (if necessary)
• Drywall (if necessary)
• Track lighting installation
• Backdrop painting
• Benchwork
• Track work and electrical wiring
• Track testing and adjustment (running trains!)
• Scenery, ballasting, buildings, etc.
