Bedrolls up Downeast! Come on up evereee-booooodie! We got the woodstove and pellet stove cranking, the fresh catnips been scattered and we're frying up the salmon skins in olive oil! Couldn't be sweeter a coziest spot in the deep of the snowbank

I've called Philipe's and arranged for a rush order of pickled eggs to be shipped to Dirt's hearth.

Fried salmon skin rolls are one of my favorites, Wayne. I strip the skin off the fish at a 30 degree angle, dust with cornstarch, dip in a thin tempura, and fry in canola. The fried skins then find their way into rolls with a bit of salmon roe.

Tell Mary that the first of January was a garden day. 70 degrees, Jahan trims, I pick up and stuff in the green recycling cans (reluctantly). Five of them. Never did see the Trojans whip the Illini. It was a window of opportunity, as we have three pounder storms coming down on us starting tomorrow. Dang, I just put the first three coats of Zano Brothers on the Christmas present.

Now what do you do about garage door openers? I have had two strip gears in a four day period. Gear kit, $20.95 from heretofore unknown internet vendor (Liftmaster 41A2817 Drive/Worm Gear Kit). I end up fooling around for about two hours each once the parts arrive. $200 a piece bucks for world class Chamberlain belt drive openers as complete replacements. I install them and fumble around for about four hours each. $319 bucks for Home Depot recommened guy to come and put them in. Low end: $41.90 and my labor. High end: $638 and I do nothing. In the meantime, my Union Station project is not getting built and there has been little time for bike riding.

I am my depression era father's child and will probably do the gear kit replacement with it's multiple trips to the hardware store trips and cries of "Is it done yet" from Jahan. Ah, life.

9° here in Orangeville, wind-chill puts it at -7°.

Guess it's time to start wearing a sweatshirt over my T.

San, I'm stubborn like that myself. Not always to a good end, but it sticks in my craw to pay somebody else to do something of which I'm capable.

Talked to Hev, an hour+. How do two old b*stards have that much to talk about? :D

Upshot is, things are seemingly OK with the hip, doc is optimistic, but the last word comes by early next week. Just as good, he says the pain is starting to ease up. Ways to go, but easing up.
The boy was overdue for some good news and a break.

Two garage door openers fail within four days?

San, you have just experienced the famous claw footed bathtub failure curve.
Image
All the garage door openers in the universe of the same model and manufacture date are doomed to fail in the first part of 2008.
If they do not, then the claw footed bathtub theory does not hold water.

Storms: We get them starting Friday. Then it freezes. I am not going to post the temperatures. The guys in the east would just laugh and tell me, "that is shorts weather." 8)

Zano Brothers... on your train?

I replaced that exact worm gear assembly on my Liftmaster this Summer!!!!! The fella that sold me the replacement kit said it was because the gears weren't lubricated from the factory. Man, was he right!! Nothing but powdered plastic left when I took the housing off. The new kit comes with a generous supply of gear grease and she's been working fine ever since. Lucky me.

My barn doors swing on steel hinges and latch with a hook. What's a garage?

If we had a huge hobo meet, can you imagine how good the food would be?
That a life will be spent gaining inches,
When this distance is read in miles.
