Oh, dear.
In the surfing category, this is not me (not a chance), but something I did get to see on the most recent visit to the eldest daughter in a trip to the bay area and Mavericks. I am concerned. She has "went out" with Flea. A nice young man (of course I insisted on meeting him). But this is nutz.
There is a bit of context here: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/12/11/MN4ITQULT.DTL
Surfing has certainly changed from the days of the Beach Boys.
A must see. Hobos like a free ride, but...

Yeah San, they wear life vests now. Wimps!
I once fell out of the top of a 12 foot wave into about a foot of water. Knocked the wind out of me. I had to wait all of ten seconds before it passed over and I could try to get my breath again. I cannot imagine how many times worse it would be to fall out of a 20 foot wave.
Now-a-days, being a desert dweller, I just fall over the handlebars of my bicycle. So far, I have avoided landing on a cactus.
Hint: Just hanging on to the handlebars as you go over does not hurt as much as trying to jump over the bars and finding that your feet did not release from the pedals.

Know the feeling! Yes, it sucks!
Reminds me of the first club ride I made with Look pedals.
Everyone else had heard of them, but no one had them. As we started out, my cleats latching in the pedals musta sounded like a howitzer going off! The entire ride stopped, turned and looked at me like I just dropped in from Mars! After I explained what had happened, everybody dismounted to take a look at my Looks!
