Jackie, sorry I missed the party. How was it? LK is having the big bash tonight. 100 guys, 5 kegs, and 4 mounds of silcone. Think I'll pass.

This my 556 post. My dad died when he was 56. My grandfather: 56. My great grandfather: 56. My grandmother on my mother's side, you got it, 56. I was born in 56. My first car was a '56. The calendar year repeats itself when I turn 56. Any ideas? As Dylan Thomas said, "I think 56 pints of Guinness is piggish."

Gog, this forum is dead when it's dead. Where is everyone?

Well the steaks and brandy were great and the mushrooms were the perfect finish. Sorry you missed it too, Tramp.

Just got back from another baby shower. So many pregnant women this year! Must be another baby boom for sure!

As for the numerical coincidences, Tramp, they are just that. Don't put too much credibility into that sort of stuff. Last Saturday before my flight from Maine, I bought some items and the total came to $6.66. The cashier asked me if still I wanted to get on the plane. "Of course," I said, "I know for a fact that the devil is still nursing his hangover at home."

At the cost per person, I hope LK's bachelor party turns out well. I have a sneaky suspicion that he'll be lucky if 20 people show up! I was honored that he invited me, since I'd be the only female there that wasn't "hired" to "entertain." *wink - wink*

If I knew there were two non-silicone peaks I might have gone. The funny thing is that JA only raised about 150. He had to borrow Goodrich's card to raise the silicone.

Goodrich (such an appropriate name!) can afford it and he actually owes LK in a round-a-bout sort of way anyhow. I kind of wish you did go, just so I could get the skinny on the "debauchery" from a non-fabricator. Nothing like a couple of stiff peaks poking in your eye, eh? Please give me the fabricator's stories anyway!

JA just called. They were in the middle of a "circle jerk" and he wasn't pleased. Didn't give a reason why.

Oh! You must share the rest of it tonight as he calls in! A "blow by blow" account of the evening. I can almost picture the scene....Gog, I hope it's not as pathetic as my mind's eye sees it! Sort of like this: http://www.kascreative.com/nofehr/hotelroom1.jpg

Ten big ones!
This very day, (what's left of it).
Would have killed a lesser man.

Of course, our first date was a Springsteen concert, that's what done it. Had the redhead 'pinned-down' before the glow wore off and she came to her senses.

Happy Anniversary Pete (and Kim)! Springsteen must have been wonderful!

The first date for me and my ex was to a Bob Dylan concert. On the first night we had met, he invited me to accompany him to the concert. I asked how many months ago he bought the tickets, already knowing the concert had been sold out three months earlier (it was Dylan's first after many years hiatus). He said he didn't have any yet, but he would. I agreed to the date, but doubted it would happen. He called three days later. He had two tickets!

The concert was incredible and the rest was history. We were married 19 years - the first 10 were incredibly happy ones, the next 4 tolerable, and the last five - hell. But we have managed to stay good friends to this day. If we hadn't attended that particular concert, it would have been doubtful that we would have gotten together in the first place. He was in the process of divorce from his first marriage and I had just broken up from a lengthy relationship. Neither of us were right or ready for the dating scene that night. We owe it all to Dylan.

Thanks for the reply, JB, and the story and the good words. It turned out to be a pretty special concert, also an August 7th, and we were married on an anniversary of that day. We rode my motorcycle to the JP, then took off into the pastoral Pennsylvania countryside for the day.

In the meantime, tonight, I'm out of brew, and you know what that means. Beer run!

(Dedicated to JB, who still gets 'carded')

B double E double R-U-N, beer run
B double E double R-U-N, beer run
all we need is a ten and a five
a car and a key and a sober driver
B double E double R-U-N beer run

a couple a frat boys from Abilene
drove all night to see robert earl keen
at the k-pig swine and soiree dance
they wore baseball caps and khaki pants
they wanted cigarettes and so to save some money
they bummed one off of Tramp that smelled kinda funny
next thing they knew they were both really hungry

and pretty thirsty too...

B double E double R-U-N, beer run
B double E double R-U-N, beer run
all we need is a ten and a five
a car and a key and a sober driver
B double E double R-U-N beer run

they found a store with a sign said their beer was the coldest
they sent in Brad cause he looked the oldest
he got a case of beer and a candy bar
walked over to where them registers are
laid his fake ID on the coutertop
the clerk looked and turned, and looked back and stopped
he said "boy, I ain't callin' the cops,
but I am keepin' this card."

the guys both took it pretty hard...

B double E double R-U-N beer run
B double E double R-U-N beer run
oh how happy we would be
if we'd only brought a better fake ID
on a B double E double R-U-N beer run

they met this other old hippie named sleepy john
claimed to be the one from the robert earl keen song
so they gave him some cash and he bought em some brews
it was a beautiful day out in Santa Cruz
they wuz feelin so good it shoulda been a crime
the crowd was cool and the band was prime
they made it back to their seats just in time
to sing with all their friends

"the road goes on forever and the party never ends..."

B double E double R-U-N, beer run
B double E double R-U-N, beer run
all we need is a ten and a five
a car and a key and a sober driver
B double E double R-U-N beer run

Hey diddle, diddle,
It's Pete an his fiddle,
He's dancin' in the middle,
Of the camp.

Pete sure can twiddle,
Move's like he's got to diddle,
As he passes on a riddle,
To the Tramp.

Seemed like it was time for a poem.

SOME EVENINGS

Poet found unconscious on Main Street.
"He looked like a shooting star in front of my headlights."

Forgive this wicked world for being so beautiful,
Forgive the madness coursing within my blood,
Forstall my inexorable return to dull normalcy, but
Fade the recollection of these few perfect moments,
So I may live with at least a half-stilled heart.
All that I have suffered,
The pain of that--now--
Drawn like a splinter from a hand,
Against this summer evening.
To walk down the hill to the harbor at dusk,
This century or older Main Street,
This New England brick and glass,
As the pale green stroke
of harbor heralds like a call.
I pass my local and Friday night pulses within;
The owner launches a bar rag at the door,
At my grinning face through the screen,
And the bartender comes to ask,
"Hey, are you coming back?"
(He'll burrow a few bottles of ale
into the ice as a gesture.)
And I walk out on the docks at high tide,
I walk to the furthest dock to the setting sun,
And I use a cold metal cleat as an opium pillow,
And I hear a bagpipe angling across the bay.
(This sky over the water can not be written.)

I give you this poem because my father died young,
I give you this poem because my father has not seen,
What I wish to show him. I give you this poem because
My father and I have never sat in my local together,
Because when I sit alone drinking I pour a beer
Into the ground so my father won't be thirsty.
I give you this poem because
Nothing will ever be the same again.

I walk back up the hill.
And turn in at the bar door.
I hand the bartender a ten
And ask him to ring the bell twice.
It rings like a poured out beer for the dead.

Mmm my lovely friend, that gives me more relief from my pain than any number of these Vicodins could, I mean it. I guess I got killer bees in the yard. No kidding. The things got me again and I went to the vet. I mean doc. They reported these things to the CDC or something. My left arm is bigger than Ali's. I love docs who are into their power and say, "Oh I can take care of the pain, are you allergic to narcotics?"

But seriously. That poem takes away any and all pain. Aside from the inevitable pull, which is the kind of pain I was made for.
