Lobaugh.....then branched out.

P1 Pacific - Baltimore & Ohio
4-4-0 - Boston & Maine
4-6-6-4 - Delaware & Hudson
Berkshire - CNW
Greenbrier - C&O
That Suburban Tank? Never happened west of Chicago.
.....Rollin did not leave out the Eastern roads.

Good point(s), well taken Bob.
A "little birdy" though reminds me the 4-4-0 is based on a NYNH&H prototype, albeit certainly adaptable to a B&M class and both eastern roads.
The D&H "challenger" dome-wise at least looks close to the Clinchfield's version as well albeit with different tender design(technically another eastern road too.)
I don't consider the C&NW an eastern road per se, neither that J class's close MP relative, I would be interested though what "Eastern Road" did have a similarly proportioned Berk like Lobaugh's > I'm partial to the original Norfolk Southern's though those guys were tiny, the smallest of the class in NA.
Is there an actual prototype for that Lobaugh Tank engine? I saw one at the Chicago Meet, quite nicely bashed and detailed into one of CNJ classes, it looked good really though not quite kosher for the prototype's road #
You know....inquiring minds....8^)

I never answered this - I suppose I would post more if my name didn’t appear so often as the last poster on multiple threads.

There is a Lobaugh Berk on eBay as I type - average looking; offered at $1100 or so. Rush for your checkbooks!

The Lobaugh Suburban was a Pacific mechanism with smaller drivers, a New Haven (thank you) boiler, a Cab Forward rear truck, and possibly a Cimax cab. All in the spirit of the Mongrel Mogul - use the parts on hand!

Rumor is that they did a similar ten-wheeler, but like this and the R.I. Mountain, I have yet to see even a picture of one in the wild.

I am hoping that a few more folks will sign in and participate - I am desperately trying to avoid Facebook.

From the 62-63 BCM catalog (pages 9-10; Lobaugh, All Nation and Pierce steam locomotives)
Not the best photo but you get the idea

You're welcome. Same catalog also lists the Lobaugh American, Pacific, topic Berkshire and the UP version Challenger, and this little guy.
Neat-O! (..me like)

I would not mind one of those, either.

I have seen exactly one that I can think of, and it was almost a decade ago:

I did inspect it nor see it run, but it looks from the photo to be a good build.

Boy. So much different.

Catalog pre-production? Or changes IN production.

Frame missing under cab. Roof mounted backup light missing. Top of sand dome appears different.
Tender shell totally different.
Cab side steps different.
Air tank brackets not there.
Cab window mullions.

and the list goes on....

I dunno, Bob. I was comparing the photo to the catalog.

Yours is somewhere in between. Again the disclaimer as stated firstly, no idea if catalog showed pre-production or if there were running changes.

Interesting that catalog and Jimmy's photos show Walshaerts, but yours does not.
Yours appears to have bearing saddles for Stephenson cross shaft.
You must have all the valve gear sequestered for later installation. Right?
So, how many Lobaugh Climax variations are there?

Your tender matches Jimmy's photo, but neither match the catalog.

I was barely able to get the thing to coast - those gears are difficult to find. The original Lobaugh gears worked great; the Boston Gear ring gears were a struggle. Vince Waterman cast some ring gears and pinions in nickel silver, but I have not tried them yet. All works right now, except not powered.

Stevenson produced a kit for a while. I suspect there are as many as 50 of these things out there in one state or another. Catalog photos were of prototypes, and starting in 1938, often not representative of the finished kit. Check out the 1938 SP Mike, with correct rear frame and rivets on the tender shell. It was delivered with a cut down Berk frame.

1937 - probably done by Gerry White:

Regarding those variations with the Climax id'd by Dave, these were kits or RTR or ...both? Seems a critter as complex as these would have a lot variation from one build to another verdad?
Also note fuel bunkers here have minor variations too.

Bob, that SP Mike looks remarkably accurate compared to the prototype photos. 1937? Wow!
