Can you explain the tower?

Door and one slit windows at ground level, looks like solid all the way to the roof.
Musta been a reason to spend time and money on something that appears to be form over function.

Not even any slots near the top to allow a bell to ring out.

It reminds me of the water towers/cisterns built in Baltimore around 1905:

At least two of them are still standing, although no longer in use. The one in Roland Park on the north side of the city has a preservation group working to restore/refurbish it.

Is it my imagination, or is that one humongous trolley car?

That one was in the middle of a trolley loop, then a trackless trolley loop, & finally a bus loop.

I drive past it frequently, as I have an SIL that lives on the southeastern edge of Roland Park adjacent to Stony Run. Like a lot of things in the city, the tower has been looking a bit shabby of late.

Nice. That looks like a very, very early automobile on the far right. I see no evidence of hooves and what appears to be a lantern of some sort attached to the right hand side, probably on the front dasher.
