Where one is from is pretty much irrelevant; it's where one is going that really matters. I find keeping my eyes and mind open to all to be useful in navigating forward. Closing either tends to get you run over.

I guess I misunderstood this line in your post.

Mostly it’s a matter of where you look at them from.

Nothing wrong with open minds, but calling BS, Art, is not keeping an open mind. It's just giving some idiot a "pass". Just like Hondo's "piss christ", I mean what kind of sick/stupid mind thinks submitting a photo of a crucifix submerged in piss is "art". And then he's so stupid or wants us to believe he's so stupid he didn't know it was wrong. He was trying to accomplish exactly what he accomplished....shock and controversy. He just didn't have the balls to defend his warped mind. No "pass".

I get how a Van Gogh style of the painting of Sauron's tower is art. But a toy doll that shows french fries in Ronald McDonald's shorts is far from art.

And Van Gogh and Munch both were regarded as rubbish in their day, their art the product of deranged minds.

Come back in 100 years and we'll see what's what; we lack the required long-term perspective needed to know what's art now.

I never thought much of Warhol and still only find it amusing; Pollock is something I long at until my head hurts; about 5 min. 100 years from now it'll all be great art or a passing footnote.

Of course one definition of art is it's whatever you can get away with.

Why discriminate with boarders when we're completely off into the land of wishful thinking and silliness?
