The only real contact I have ever had with chickens was when I was a boy. I was given four "peeps" for Easter-time, dyed a variety of colors, as was the custom at the time (the 50's). We raised them in the basement and backyard until they seemed to be adults. Then, one day, when I returned home from school, the three chickens and one rooster were gone, given to a nearby farmer, I was told, though we did seem to have a more-than-usual amount of chicken meals for several days.
The only other fowl encounters I have had are the geese landing and strolling about in the nearby cemetery, which stand about waist-high to me when I walk there, all very calm occasions, even pleasant, except for the acres of droppings which must be navigated alertly.
