Subway, Elevated, Trolley & Traction Lines photos
Re: Subway, Elevated, Trolley & Traction Lines photos
There's a lot to see in that photo. The catenary poles and the artillery are of interest. That kid, yeah, she's trouble...

All of the above -

Is the front truck set a little more in than the rear truck or is that one of my optical delusions ?
This IS a serious question.

Tough to tell from this angle, but I would say yes, maybe a foot or so further back. Looks like a snow blade/plow ahead of the lead truck, but I doubt that's the reason.

I don't know all that much about traction and electric engines, but the trucks are pretty much centered below the pantagraphs. The power goes down in a strait line to power the trucks (no twists ans turns in the wiring) Makes sense when you think about it. I would like to see some of that stuff come back!

Yes. Posting several cards and photos of Chambersburg this week and next.
Makes sense. It's a shame that so many towns got rid of their squares. Gettysburg still has theirs, as does New Oxford. Always love the white-knuckle thrill of finding your way through, especially with today's moronic drivers.
One in G-burg can be entertaining.....
Easy.....traffic entering the circle yields to the traffic going round. There are a lot of them in New England, where they are called rotarys.

They're called rotaries in VA, MD, and PA, too! There's one in the middle of nowhere that I encounter on my way to Mercersburg.

I'd think that there might be a slight detour of the power about the controller unit up front....

Yes! But anything that they "bring back" will be modern looking rubbish with no sense of style or identity. Head up over to the museum in Rockhill - they'd got a really nice CA&E car that all be itself is worth the drive - think they've gotten the restoration just about done on it!

Better tell Google.
I've never heard anyone in PA call them anything other than a traffic circle. There are signs that mark them as rotarys in NE.

Yes, that's what folks there call them......when they are polite - mostly they call them a PITA and total piece of crap........
As for Google - when they start writing me checks, I'll help them....

Not a relative - just a RPPC that I ran across that just needed saving for use here.
