Will Lightning Strike Twice or.............

Postby up148 » Mon Apr 12, 2021 8:42 am

did they find the only uninformed buyer with the last one they sold. It brought $3500+, which I thought was a miracle (for them) and had to leave a very disappointed buyer once they learned what they bought. This time around they want $4500+ Maybe even the same model if the 1st buyer reneged at the last minute.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Overland-Model ... Sw~VxgcNnA

Previously, the last ones I saw go across the EB auction block brought around $1500, which was too much. I can't emphasize enough what a POS these models are and especially in stock form. Solid cast vents and screening, Zamac gearboxes that disintegrate, tank drive, "B" unit has a "fake" fuel tank, which the prototype never had, but needed on the model to hide the tank drive and the list goes on and on.

I'm watching but hope we continue to see this model listed with lower pricing until it gets down to where it should be. I hate to know even a stranger got screwed that badly.

I refused to help a buddy sell one of these, repowered, for a grand. Held together with JB Weld. Nice paint, though.

It's just an affirmation that you better know what you're buying before you plop down your hard earned dollars on anything. We'll call it tuition, because you will get an education! Caveat Emptor!

If it sells, it will probably sit on a mantle, in a display case, etc. possibly even not even in a home but some office space. The previous one probably has a similar destination.

It's buyer beware as always.

OTOH, this is capitalism in action and make a buck at whatever the market will accept.

Strangely enough, almost all the lots that I had a watch on from Trainz yesterday sold overnight and I thought that they would be there this morning for sure. Either we need to be re-calibrated or there are a lot of suckers out there, or both. Hopefully, they will attend Strasburg this Sat!

That certainly does give pause. I'm seeing some very "stupid" high money being spent for subpar collector cars too. I thought both hobbies were supposed to be suffering from the "graying" of us old turds and no one else to pick up the baton.....sure hasn't happened yet.

And, I've sold some stuff for way more than I ever thought reasonable (and then worried about hearing all sorts of complaints.....silence), so as usual that the hobby is dying and that there's no younger folks out there seems just as wrong today as it was 30 years ago.

Don't have to imagine. Fully 1/2 of us have IQs under 100. But what is the solution? Select voters by intellect?
Nope - has to be everybody. Key is education.

TrainZ sometimes has buy-it-now bargains, but you rarely see them because they are quickly snapped up. An example:
Central Locomotive Works O Scale Brass Southern PS 4 Locomotive Kit (2 Rail)/Box, sold for $279.99 buy-it-now

Seems like there are some folks that just hover over the listings from TrainZ waiting for the buy-it-now bargains.

Then again, I'm selling as much as possible, not buying......

My "non-sequitur" was in response to one of those things you put on the bottom of your posts that contained the word "imagine" and went on to describe something like Trumpism. It is gone now - do they change all of your tags when you swap them?

That begins to make sense.....more than if applied to the subject of the thread.

They all change, but I do have a copy,
