Nice job, but....

Postby ScaleCraft » Thu Oct 08, 2020 4:11 pm

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Lionel- ... 4465668077

What the original owner did is nice (altho red drivers is odd), but for originality it's dead.
I have made some of my best pieces from dealers who can't sell stuff that's been messed with.

Yes, bell ringing tender...but it's been repainted and re-lettered, with banana plug connections.
Class lights snapped off...common on these. Bell remounted on top in front of the stack, which has been shortened, it appears.
Dynamo mounted on top of the Belpaire where the bell was originally.

Boiler handrails brass (?) and reconfigured.
Nice, but not for $250 + shipping. Sorry.

At least this one isn't laughable.
Once I built a railroad, I made it run,
Made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad, now it's done --
Brother, can you spare a dime?

So why do you post all this crap you don't like? If you don't like it, why do you think we will, or are you just trying to punish us?

Ah. Punishment. Now there's an idea.
Hadn't thought of that.
Could fit I suppose.

More the stupidity of the "winners" or wanna-be "winners", the greed and avarice of the sellers....compounded by their total lack of knowledge.

Be honest with me for a moment.
When you read these gems, do you not at least chuckle, if not guffaw aloud?

It's not like I am making them up or fabricating them to prove a point.
These are actual offerings. Should be offerings to a dumpster, but offerings nonetheless.

LOL. I find them entertaining and a bit shocking. The crap being passed off as "vintage"/mint/valuable is astounding.

Sometimes I think he's trying to prove to us ebay is actually a flea market infested with clueless antique mall dealers peddling grossly overpriced junk. Nothing new. That's just what ebay is and it's something we've known all along.

John, No argument from me, as that's all essentially true.....BUT, the GREAT redeeming feature of Ebay is that it gives you access to tons of things you would NOT see otherwise, and without having to leave your home......and using it is not mandatory.

I've used Ebay as both a buyer and seller (not so much of late) since 1998. The type of stuff you are posting (at least most of it) is so pervasive that most of it doesn't even have amusement value. And yes, you are definitely NOT making the stuff up! Hopefully we can get some entertainment/amusement out of the mess. Make us giggle now and then!

There's so much to chuckle about on ebay. watches, bicycles, bronze statues, postage stamps and anything folks feel is a goldmine In the last 6 months i have had no luck selling there. I will try one last week. Then throw everything out that fails to sell.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

The only train shows for the last decade in my huge population Los Angeles area are two small TTOS meets. Even Cal Stewart is reduced to almost a regular monthly small meet. So it's ebay or pretty well nothing. Years ago TTOS had big gym size monthly meets well attended and I would walk around and see all kinds of oddball stuff that you don't see on ebay unless you just happen to run across something. I always search for a specific item so thats all I see.

Dave's posts are sometimes funny and sometimes informative.
I can't get to shows much anymore so I do get to see some interesting stuff.
