Cab Forward 2020

One of the things that I think about lately is - where should these things go? I once offered to display them in the SDMRR Museum, of which I am twice a life member. The occasion was "Cab Forward Month." They were not even interested in looking at the photos, let alone have me drag them down there and put them on display. My great fear is that I would donate them, and then a museum would either park them in a warehouse or sell them. Still, I am thinking of making the offer - maybe to a museum that would give me the time of day?

Really is something out of your control once in the hands of any museum; they can pretty much do with them whatever they want.......

Probably be more productive selling them and donating the money to something you think worthy.

I currently sell ~50% of what I build just to get it out from under foot.

Good point. It is my ego that wants these on display somewhere. I personally think they are pretty good - maybe a museum curator would not think so. Tommy Sefton's Lobaugh Cab Forward is in the Sacramento Museum with not even a little tag mentioning that it is rare, or that it came from a notable collector. But overall, the museum is pretty good - I go whenever I get close to Sacramento.

I think I will bump this. Any interest in seeing "under construction" photos? I was vegetating this AM prior to heading to the airport, and noted that my Cab Forward file has a few really ugly photos of unpainted and unfinished back-up malleys.

I'd much rather see a blow by blow of the Milwaukee Road Erie Built with all the details...what foundry you sent it to for castings, were they one piece or two? If they were 2 piece where did you add tabs for soldering? The whole nine yards! How long, how much, anything you would do differently?`

Totally agree with Rufus. Lots more interesting and instructive to see how a model was built.

Here is the OSN 1/4' Scale MM-2 before paint. Please note the driveshaft - both engines are driven by a Pittman 8000-series into first a Mod 0.6, and then into a Mod 0.5. I am sure I mentioned it before, but this gives me rods in and out of synch - quite realistic. Probably wouldn't work with sound, because then you would notice the periodicity.

I am not familiar with the differences between the Mod 0.5 and 0.6, but it sounds like they might have different gear ratios. If so, are the diameters of the drivers of each engine proportioned in the same way as the difference in gear ratio? Unless I am thinking about this incorrectly, that would be the only way to get smooth asynchronous operation without binding or wheel slip (at least with a single motor and common drive shaft).
