So. Here we have a 2343 SF DUMMY A unit (as in, no power). There was a set of these, one power, one dummy, last I looked bid was $84 the pair.

Where do you start?
Some kid with a brush and a bottle of black paint did a number on the roof. But it doesn't matter for originality as all the visible paint is shot. Rubbed off, scratched, nicked. Nose decal shot, maybe a cracked shell on the nose, one number board missing, so what's special for $203BIN? Nothing.
Except the decimal point is wrong.

Strip and repaint candidate. $20.00 tops.

I stopped paying attention to TRAINZ a while ago. Their prices typically are stupid, plus that buyer's premium renders them irrelevant.

eBay has also shown some very ridiculous prices as well.

It seems that a lot of buyer's are displaying those same traits you see at York. You know, the guy that either puts some crazy price on his stuff or sets up his table, throws a blanket over it, and then tells his wife he has to come back next time to sell it (the stuff he's been holding onto for 20 years).

I'm not sure anybody is paying those prices.

I sure as hell am not.

Nothing new here. Trainz is clueless to pre and postwar trains and the grading standards. They are cheap lowballers when it comes to buying collections and junk is all they get their hands on.

I'm not a big time model railroader. Built all of my 16' X 20' layout myself. Never bought anything from any internet auction site, Have only been to York
once and bought scenery stuff then. I have been to several shows in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina at which I did buy some stuff.There is a show
in Savannah every January ( haven't heard about 2021 yet ) and I have been selling some of my stuff. I do think that, unlike some I have seen at other shows, I do mean to sell what I take and my asking prices are low. I don't really understand the internet auctions and ai am more interested in selling than buying and it by far easier to do at a live show. And a lot more fun. From what I have seen I also think "Trainz is NUTS".

This one isn't Trainz, but same engine, Price is still too high. At no place does it say "dummy", but it appears to be. Horns missing, nose grab broken nose decals not pristine. Porthole windows missing.
Plugged battery hole is a dummy. Unless someone has messed around with it.
But the seller is really clueless.
Title states 2343.
Data says: VINTAGE LIONEL 2333 20 SANTA FE LOCOMOTIVE MODEL TRAIN 0 GAUGE
Then description says: Train Operating Company: Santa Fe Southern Railway
Number boards (at least one) says 2343.

So it's a 2333/2343/powered/dummy/Santa Fe Southern locomotive.

There has never been a question that the buyers are nutz. Auction Fever, unable to see the photos nor to read the descriptions.
Outfits like Trainz knows this, and feeds off it.
Along the same lines of MicroSlime. Convince folks something is no longer supported, and POW! we have to get the latest and greatest and feed the marketing data MicroSlime collects on each user!
Then, oh, no, we all have to put our data on da cloud and PAY for the privilege!

Resistance may be futile, but resist we must! I do my part by posting the Trainz BS.
