Thanks Guys,

Compliments are always welcome. Sometimes I wonder if that's the purpose of my posts, or is it simply to show what can be done? Probably a little of both along with some other unidentified reasons best left buried.

The fact is, for me, it's just fun to see what I can do and if I can do better than previous efforts. Sometimes it works out.

Like Bob has said in the past, he considers himself a blacksmith. I do the same except, like Bob, we have access to tools that, hopefully, raise the standards slightly from the old forge, w/bellows, a hammer, and anvil.

Most times, when a project is finished, I'll have stacks of notes, scribbles, and drawings. I'm sure my old drafting instructors would shudder if they saw the drawings. Worst part is, after I'm done I sometimes review said items and have to ask myself, what the hell does any of this mean. Even worse when I don't make notes of which notes go to which model. Fun times but mostly just recycled paper now.

Pretty normal.

I keep a stack of steno pads in my shop for taking notes, recording parts #'s, sizes of wood, styrene, brass that gets into a project while taking lots of pictures. I get to a point where I have to pause, off-load and look at the pictures, find the errors, etc.

Even worse when I don't make notes of which notes go to which model.

Then I end up not writing an article,

There is always an element of ego involved in posting photos of one's own work. But it is nothing to apologize for - the return I expect is that others will reciprocate, and I can enjoy seeing what others are creating.

I was just "drifting along" when Dan Henon had his stroke, and out of more fear that we would lose OSN than a desire to show that I had joined the ranks of serious scratchbuilders, I began to contribute.

In the end, I hope I helped the hobby. Others have taken my place, and I value their inputs. Maroon has ably taken over where I left off.

We need guys like Jay to go into print, sharing what they have learned (maybe even with Stock Drive part numbers?) so the rest of us can aspire to that level of artistry. Some are not given to "verbosity", at least when writing, but there are others who can take reasonable notes and photos and turn them into truly good magazine fodder.

I would entertain such a task on a limited basis. Perhaps Maroon would be so inclined?

We can work with all sorts of possibilities when it comes to preparing articles for publication.

We can also help work up articles and possibly more in-depth. Both magazines are great resources but we all need good content.

Upcoming sample if you want to build your own...

Like I did a few weeks ago, here is a link to my R-O-W FB page. As stated earlier, far easier to post...especially if there are a lot of photos. Don;t want to got to FB? Don't go, I understand.

For those that are friends with the guy in Abilene, this will be going to him.

I love to look at your work. I could see some of it on the iPad by using your link.

I don't really understand facebook. My brother set me up with an account and friended his spouse, kids, and a couple in-laws. All of a sudden my e-mail went haywire with pictures of sandwiches, kids, trees, scrambled eggs - nothing against trees; I just don't want them in my e-mail.

Oh - and I have a "birther" brother who is quite angry, politically. I need none of that - I pretend he is a normal person and block his politics. He is otherwise a nice guy. He dominates, apparently, on FB.

And friend requests? I decided that facebook was generating them, not my friends. I was afraid that if I friended anybody my e-mail would explode.

But yeah, I would go there to see model trains, or Piper Cubs.

If you are at all security conscious, don't use FB. They track whatever you do with cookies. Worse than Windoze Ten.

The fix is, for me, log in to FB, view and like my wife's latest photos, log out, THEN go to the list of cookies on the browser and delete everything except pages I am using, like MTJ.

Did a lot of research on this, security folks came up with that, and some add-ons (which I have) than blocks a lot of Zook's attempt at world domination.

I have a laptop...I can see it across the room, sitting on top of my CRT Color TV set, given to me with Windoze Ten.
Spent weeks researching and modifying it, killed all MS telemetry, dead, and killed all updates, dead.
Their updates won't brick THAT laptop!

This laptop started as 8.0, came with it, hate it, went to 8.1 and modified it to look and work like XP, and killed updates, hard. There are two on the machine, both done by MS as soon as I turned it on.

Have to take charge. Google, MS, Apple and FB aren't watching out for you.

Okay then. This isn't FB.

Maybe it's worse. I'm not technically knowledgeable enough to know.

Very nice Jay! I'll never look at my Red Caboose GP with the retro-style Roco drive the same way again

That's some fine train porn. However, I'm a lot more interested in that sw1500 chassis you have sitting on the table down in front. Probably Overland, what do you think about the truck details?

Jim,

Yeah, you always were the observant type. Presented to me as an SW1200. Yes, OMI. A friend picked it up in Chicago and asked me to install a new drive and other silliness. The placement was a tease for him...see if he's paying attention. Photos of that one when it gets a little further along.

The Flexi trucks? Nowhere near as nice as the version you were/are working on but the best available, to date.
