Lithium mining is an issue; better battery technology is being developed; consider what battery tech was just 20 years ago.

But, there is a blind sighted aspect to the move away from fossil fuels - something, somewhere has to be used to make electricity. Right now, natural gas is the most economical choice on a large scale and probably relatively an equally decent choice environmentally, at least at the end use stage. This country has really done a great job of sticking its head in the sand regarding other possibilities and ignoring all of the positive economic benefits that these would generate. Not surprisingly, we're lagging behind.........

600 miles is on the cusp of what I'd find acceptable. I'm a slow driver...the last thing I want is the necessity of executing a recharge halfway to my destination, tacking on another one to one-and-a-half hours onto the journey.

Who currently has a 600 mile range? Most I've seen indicate 250-300 at best.

Tesla - a Model 3 has been reported to make 600; Model S is rated to 370; 620 miles is what the next cars are set to be.

Again, how far do you really drive - consider daily commuting, errands, etc. Now that I'm only going in to my office on campus, I might average 50 miles a week instead of 50 miles/day.

Philadelphia to Santee SC. is 613 miles. Baltimore to Hardeeville SC. is 602 miles. See how you feel after driving to the SC. GA. border. Baltimore to york 52 miles 104 round trip no charge needed.

Volvo is going all electric - given that's Sweden, I'm betting that they have a solution to that if it's true. OTOH, we've had maybe 5 days this winter below 25.

Nobody runs out to buy a prius .they sashay on down to the dealer. Options for cold day use is not optimal and cuts into range.
