Climate change: Big lifestyle changes are the only answer
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-49997755
The UK government must tell the public small, easy changes will not be enough to tackle climate change, warn experts.
Researchers from Imperial College London say we must eat less meat and dairy, swap cars for bikes, take fewer flights, and ditch gas boilers at home.
The report, seen by BBC Panorama, has been prepared for the Committee on Climate Change, which advises ministers how to cut the UK's carbon footprint.
It says an upheaval in our lifestyles is the only way to meet targets.

A new report commissioned by the Committee on Climate Change, the UK government's official climate-change advisers, has called for a ban on all frequent flyer reward programs to discourage people from traveling by air so much.
Researchers from Imperial College London, who wrote the report, said that just 15% of the entire British population take 70% of all flights from the country.

Climate activists at French airport protest 'doused in pepper spray'
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-51516442
Climate campaign group Extinction Rebellion has posted footage on social media reportedly showing French riot police dousing activists at an airport protest with pepper spray.
The demonstrators were calling for a reduction in flights at the airport.
No flights were disrupted, but the protest led to a build-up of traffic.
So what would happen to all the people that get laid off if the airlines would cut half the flights. Maybe they could learn to "code"

I'll have to ask Jean-Paul. But, I'd bet that they'd all go on internet forums....
However, maybe you did not see Delta's announcement yesterday about going carbon neutral?
Evil cannot create anything new, it can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have created or made.

It's BS. Carbon neutral can be a load of crap. Look at it this way. I poke 7 old geezers in the eye. Now i have 7 demerits. What to do. I find a boy scout group that reads books to old geezers. They read to 15. Thing is they only need to read to 8. This boy scout group has 7 extra merit badges. I buy them for $20,000. Now i have their 7 merit badges to erase my 7 demerits. Plus i look good for giving the boy scouts $20,000. That's carbon neutral in a nutshell. Delta wont be flying cleaner planes.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

The company, which has made environmentally conscious moves in the past, will still rely on jet fuel
“We will continue to use jet fuel for as far as the eye can see,” Bastian said. “We’ll be investing in technologies to reduce the impact of jet fuel, but I don’t ever see a future where we’ll eliminate jet fuel from our footprint.”
Carbon neutral my A$$.
Apparently I'm not the only one here that reads with one eye closed and just uses half a brain.

Dirty streaming: The internet's big secret
https://www.bbc.com/news/av/stories-517 ... big-secret
With the launch of streaming services from Disney and Apple, the rollout of 5G and the growth in cryptocurrencies, experts are warning about the impact this huge rise in data use could have on the environment.
There are now hundreds of thousands of data centres around the world, storing everything from viral videos to doctors' notes and even bank account details. Many of them run on electricity generated by burning fossil fuels.
Film and TV writer Beth Webb went in search of the internet and discovered that 'the cloud' is actually a vast network of energy-guzzling data centres and undersea cables.

Not much of a secret; in fact, pretty obvious. Another example of re-discovery being promoted as news.
