I grew up attending those with my grandfather and local baseball teams have all but faded away into the mists. Ball field is still just a bit of a walk from my place in PA and maintained, but I have no idea who actually uses it.

Hmmm, my question is why a Turkish flag would be displayed in Shinglehouse, PA?

No real knowledge other than to speculate that this might have been a sign of a fad and fascination with all things "Turkish" not unlike the fad with all things "Japanese" also around the turn of the century.

Maybe a family from Turkey showing their heritage?
I remember various flags being displayed around my childhood neighborhood from other countries usually in association with the U.S. flag.
This would have been during WW II and I think it was done to show that they were U.S. patriots. Many were from families were in their
first and second generation in this country.
Of course this may not apply at all to the above Turkish flag.

Not a Turkish flag. Turkey didn't exist till after WW 1.

That might be an Ottoman Empire flag.

It may be some fraternal order that liked the symbols of the crescent and star?

Sounds right.

I don't recall what that area was called prior to that time. ????
Would Turkey have used the Ottoman Empire flag?
Fraternal order does sound likely but I know little about them.

Turkish flag is similar but the star is off set.

I think that's a Shriner's symbol.

I had that thought, but the symbol is not right for Shriner's - placement is off. Then again, maybe that's what it was pre-1920.

Star is inverted like the eastern order symbol. Turkey, Ottoman, and the Shriners all use the upright five point star. Might be a local/home grown organization.

In this, the age of information, I am surprised by some of these discussions.

INFORMATION GATHERED FROM GOOGLE SEARCH

From, History of Shinglehouse, PA, A good band, with colorful uniforms was the pride of any pride of any Pennsylvania community at the turn of the century, and "Shingle House' was no exception.

A Turkish band was all the rage back then (and still is in some places.)

Except for Tucson, where a Mariachi Band is all the rage.

And as for the flag:

As for the five pointed star, which first appeared in the 1840s, the Turkish flags showed up with variations all the time. The star orientation in the photo in question is one variation.

The harmonies and rhythms of the Mariachi group fit my Western ears a little better than the Turkish group.
If I was going through an area and a Turkish band was playing I would stop and listen.
To the Western ear there should be harmonies and rhythms quite different from what is usually heard in the U.S.
