Well, it's been a couple months since you started this thread and received our input. How has retirement been going for you?

Like it very much, but coupled with our move and many trips back to OKC for OJT, it's been hard to really appreciate it. Still have unpacked boxes stacked around. But, enjoy the freedom from daily routine so this should be great.

We were down all last week and I left the wife at the suggestion of my daughter, for more OJT this week and not sure that was a good decision. Made sense at the time, but wife developed BP issues and dizziness yesterday and seeing her heart doctor today. She had a bad heart attack 3 years ago and believe she's working too hard which triggered something. Only good thing is this event happened near her heart doctor who is stellar. Know more later today.

I've always been there if any issues developed, so being 400 miles away isn't helping my stress level. But son is super sharp and was there in ER and ICU with me 3 years ago and he's going with her today.

Thanks for asking Murph!

For your wife and you, if you are making such changes , which involves schlepping things around , more than normally, I would be very, very cautious about lifting things, even something along the lines of a crate of 24 bottles of water, for example . If we are not used to lifting bunches of stuff or even weight or bulk noteworthy individual items, let yourself do that rarely, if at all.

Perhaps Rufus would support my cautioning you in this regard .

That's entirely dependent upon the individual and their health. Should consult one's own Doc. I put 280 lbs of concrete mix in the back of the Subaru on Mon. and will be doing masonry work at my place in PA tomorrow. Others probably are not up to such lifting, carrying, lugging, and time with a trowel. I still split firewood with an axe, hammer & wedges - 40-60 min sessions and cut logs with the chain saw. Now 10 years from now, maybe not, but then I know many that age that I cannot keep up with. Again, entirely dependent upon the individual and their health. Old age does not immediately equate with infirm. Staying active is a good thing!

The move was strenuous and I used muscles I haven't used in years. Pain for a few days and then okay and I feel myself building back up. Plus we now have staircases which we haven't had in 13+ years.

Coupled with what I believe is a bad hip and more recently sciatic nerve issues, it gets interesting. Ladders are a trigger point or sit for more than a few minutes and I walk like Grandpa McCoy for awhile. Right hip issue has been with me for few years and comes and goes, but this sciatic thing is all day,m everyday and makes many different parts of my thigh, calf, ankle, knee extremely painful, but never all at the same time....moves up and down the leg. Getting in and out of the car I have to learn back to help lift my leg in and very painful to lean down and tie my shoe if I can even do the right leg. I need to get a new local doctor but their solution always seems to be meds to cover, rather than find the problem. We'll see. Can't go on like this.

Might entail a new hip.

I'm hoping that is the last resort. Don't understand the leg pain and aching, which I think is unrelated to the hip. Used to have a good chiropractor up here but he retired. Wondering if I might not have just a pinched nerve and an adjustment would take care of the leg pain. Hip is what it is and might need a replacement....someday.

Bad hip can cause all sorts of related issues due to inflammation and compensation. Later is harder than sooner.

Butch,

Suggest you see an Orthopedist and get the thing X-Rayed. You are about the age I was when I had both hips replaced. Another clue: did either of your parents have hip issues...both of mine did.

Yes, just heard back that the heart doctor says this is not heart related but doing a carotid scan tomorrow to make sure. Believes it is her inner ear and vestibular system. So, maybe next week I can seek out a Orthopedist and see what they have to say.

Good info from all and I appreciate it. I know I've been stubborn about the hip, but never having surgery in my life or a hospital stay, I'm being a p*ssy about it.

If you do need a replacement, don't mess around. I held off so I could go on a vacation, and it caused me a lot of problems.

If you DO end up needing surgery, get yourself a "Nifty Nabber" so you can pick up stuff you drop on the floor! You can pick up most anything you have the strength to lift, and items as small as a dime and thin as credit cards....REALLY! Got mine at Home Depot, but they can be had online. 18 and 36 inch lengths are the handiest.

Hope the wife is soon doing better!

Thanks Rich. Wife seems to be doing fine. Doctor prescribed pills for vertigo (which I have) and she not dizzy any longer and BP has stabilized. Tomorrows scan is important and hoping all it positive.

Wow, I moved into this house in 1985, and I still have a few unpacked boxes.

My hip started to hurt and my sister texted me some YouTube exercises for it and a couple of seemingly simple exercises fixed it in a few weeks.

Do you still have those links? Would you mind posting them if you do?
