Bach's Ave Maria is better. < https://youtu.be/cVS9dgsKPyY >

Thank you for that link. I watched Kimi Scota's performance all the way thru and felt nothing from her. Oh, I could see she was serious about performing, and presenting herself well, but I got not one drop of understanding of the message(s) in that song, from her, the occasional tears being dabbed-up by some in the audience, notwithstanding, who I interpreted as doing so due to their understanding the song itself, not gleaning any particular depth from the singer's "interpretation," which I saw as empty.

Could just be me, no doubt.

I'll try to listen to it again ,later, if I can tolerate it.

There was no interpretation, Kimi Skota sang it straight as written.

Did you find yourself preferring a female singer's performance of the Ave Maria ? Last night, I listened to Andrea Bocelli's presentation, and to Pavarotti's, and found them both beautiful, and moving, but found myself preferring a woman's voice singing the Ave Maria. I am not at all sure why.

No preference for female or male performance.

The prayer ("Sounds like a prayer", André Rieu???) sung by Kimi Skota is the simple prayer to the Virgin Mary that you and I said when we prayed the Rosary. It is also one of the prayers I said after leaving the confessional. It is simple and beautiful.

The version sung by Kimi Skota is credited to French Romantic composer Charles Gounod and is specially designed to be superimposed over the Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846, from Book I of J.S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier. Like most of Bach's work, this piece is a masterpiece of simplicity, it sounds like the music of the universe.

It is the simplicity, beauty, and familiarity with the prayer and score that makes me chose Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod) over the thing you offered.

Andrea Bocelli's presentation was a different Ave Maria, composed by Franz Schubert. It is not our prayer.

And I could not understand a word from Andrea Bocelli. Was he drunk? He slurred everything. And he needed a shave.

Also, the score makes me seasick. It goes up and down, up and down, never changing from its wave shape.

Pavarotti's Ava Maria by Shubert was a masterpiece of perfection. His pronunciation was superior to even Kimi Skota's (who was very good.) I don't particularly like Shubert's Ava Maria but am totally mesmerized by the perfection of Pavarotti. I do not hear the score when Provorati sings, he overpowers everything. I have this one on my disc drive and listen to it when I feel like being awed by Pavarotti.

Billie Holliday I remember well from my younger days.
Jazz horn players copied the way she sang, IMHO, not the other way around.

I found the Tool stuff interesting but would need to have more time to listen.
But I find Weird Al interesting also.
I can listen to almost anything for a while. Rap is the hardest.

As do I - very distinctive sound and stylings. Been 13 years waiting since their last release.

No idea where 3 members have been, but Maynard James has been busy with his other 2 bands and his vineyards in Arizona
