I watched my first episode of Lego Masters tonight, on Fox. It reminds me of American Chopper and Monster Garage a bit. I liked watching Jesse James roll custom fenders and gas tanks on his English wheel, and the A.C. guys custom machining wheels on the CNC mill and lathe, as well as the other actual creative stuff. I hate the bogus melodrama, though.
There was some serious design and creativity here, and I recommend the show on that basis. Like Forged in Fire, it's a timed competition. For some reason, the teams had to move their projects across the room, and two were largely destroyed in the process. This was simply senseless. There was a second phase to the competition, so some repair was possible. Not enough time is devoted to covering the design and creative work, and the show doesn't know how to do that. What they do, is have the judges critique the contestant's work during construction, which wastes the contestant's, and our, time.
