Why?
Inquiring clowns want to know!!!
Well, noteworthy among the phenomenon ("alleged" phenomenon?) have been:
St Catherine of Balogna; Blessed Imelda Lambertini; St Vincent de Paul (his heart); St Zita; St Alphonse; St Pope Pius X, among numerous (in my estimation) others.
And an inquiring mind might want to read some of what James Andrew Barrett has written on this subject (article of May 24, 2008.) He gave particular attention to
St Charbel, a Lebanese hermit, who died on Christmas Eve, 1898, and included a report that the saint's grave had been seen surrounded by lights, and that an extraordinary brightness has been seen there lasting for 45 days.
The first time the grave was opened, the body was found floating in mud but "completely free from signs of deterioration." The last of the four times it was opened, 1955, the body was still bleeding.
It has been asked if this phenomenon were actually possible and what the science-physics underlying this phenomenon might be.
