Actually the first seller is not an idiot, he is trolling for one.
Both items are part of the reason for the automatic scrolling on your mouse.

Possibly so as his other stuff appears priced closer to reality

Don't have a mouse and did know that they had automatic scrolling............

Certainly not as far out as, say, the thousand dollar E6 pair that is now down to $650 and still overpriced by a factor of ten?
My guess is that a pristine Thomas tank car is $30, so we are only off by a factor of three. And if you think ten bucks is out of line for three K&S sheets and a handful of poles you haven't been in a hobby shop lately. That pile will easily set you back $20 - I know, because I buy poles in bulk, and it is still expensive.
I get my .020 and bar stock from Industrial Supply, in 6 foot lengths, but .010 comes from the hobby store. One sheet - $2.25.

Interesting..........the decimal point moved over to reality during the course of this discussion,

Yep, the decimal point made it to where it should be.

That ain't nuthin'!
"Union Terminal Imports announced that they will be setting final production quantities on April 19 for their Pullman 10-6 Sleeping car project in HO scale. "
"The list cost for the 10-4 Sleepers I $841. Order due by 4/19/19."

The "HO" collectors market is alive and well with Division Point, Coach Yard and a few other importers there is a steady flow of product. The builders are doing a remarkable job on these miniatures best viewed [opinion] in high res digital pics vs on the shelf or layout to fully appreciate this state of the art model building. There is a huge amount of product out available used and coming in check out Brass Trains [Fl] or the Caboose Stop [Ct] websites, just saying.

All well and good, but I suspect the interest in HO for most on this forum is LESS THAN ZERO.

No, have to be more precise than that.
It's HALF zero.

Maerklin gauges......Zero, One, Two, Three....ad infinitum nauseum.
So, smaller motors were developed, allowing smaller scales, but the smallest was Zero..what shall we do?
Half Zero.
It isn't HO like they want you to think, it's H0.
Drives them batty.
Rumour has it that a gauge in between H0 and 0 was developed....and initially going to be called H1....but those guys were smart.....not gonna be half of anything....so called it S.
