Yep, dogs are wonderful. As long as they belong to someone else.

Let me ask this question .
At the moment , I am watching a TV special : Nature: Yosemite.
Should I plan on a trip to there, alone, this Summer, or should I simply stay home, safe? And alone.

"It's easy to feel small in Yosemite. It has a way of putting everything in perspective," was just now voiced within the program.

You don't have to go there to feel small. It's easy to feel small in the Universe and we're all there now.

Go to enjoy Yosemite and marvel at what you might have missed by not going and seeing it in person.

My family drove to Yosemite during the summer several times. They had at least two nice hotels there, but we always rented a cabin. We still went to the Wawona hotel, because my parents played golf back then, and the hotel had a course. Just the scenery on the course is spectacular. It's like being in an episode of Bonanza.

Do people at your church go on trips, together?

Why not Yellowstone?
I am impressed with every national park and have not been to as many as I would like.
Same is true of state parks. And what Murph usually does is just as good.

Murph.
I think taking a trip to see the parks is a good idea. How would you plan to get there ??

As I recall you don't care to fly. I am guessing but I would say it would probably take 5/6 days to drive to California.

In my younger years we went to Yosemite many times. To really see the place there is a lot of hiking involved and there are a lot of bears in the park. You will get to see them up close and personal. You don't have to be afraid of them, they don't bother the visitors. They just be going through all the trash looking for food.

Park rangers keep the frisky ones away from the visitors.

If you drove, you could check out places along the way, And, on the way home. One thing to keep in mind, is the increased number of brush fires out here in the summer. They have already affected Yosemite. If you hear that the park is on fire while driving, you can divert to another destination.

Sequoia/King's Canyon is well worth a visit, has some great trails, fewer, more or less, visitors.

There's all the parks along the way, including the Grand Canyon. Plus, Murph could visit friends. Probably, a good time for that.

After many of our Yosemite trips, we'd drive up to San Francisco. I didn't give a dead rat's-ass for Yosemite, but real cable cars - yeah!

Murph, for a man of your interests, there are a LOT of neat things to see, in L.A. You could spend a week, just exploring Disneyland and Knott's. They're quite close to each other.

I drove from Philly to California in 2016. Along the way .I stopped to smell the roses. When i left. My GPS said 38 hrs of driving. Well it's longer then that. My first was west of Chicago. After 13 hrs i needed a cold drink and rest. After checking into a hotel. I headed out for a beer to go. No such luck. You cant buy just one. So i bought 6 and gave 5 away. Sat out in the parking lot drinking with 5 strangers.
It was right after the cubs had won a world series. Those 5 guys were so happy. the cubbies won and they got free beer. Funny how no matter where you are. 6 beers and 6 guys always leads to talking about sports, laddies and music. after that beer i headed over to my hotel for some well needed rest. in the morning i heard so much racket. Outside was load music, screaming laughter and car horns. a world series victors parade was marching by. I got to see a cubs world series parade. 108 years in the making.
After a few minutes. I was done with the parade and headed west again. checked my GPS. 44 hrs. to CA. What time is getting longer. That's OK. you don't need GPS head west on RT. 80 you'll find CA. On ward to Council bluff. Iowa was none eventful Turn the corner into Omaha Neb. There's a big boy sitting a top the hills. High above the road looking over a closed U.P. shop.
A few hours later i stopped at a high school. Out front was a sign. " Tonight Somebody's famous corn dogs" I forget what was the lady's name. As for the corn dogs meh. give a Nathan's ,Sabrett, Gray's papaya or Hebrew national. Anyway 2 corn dogs and a local high school football game was a way to relax for an hour. Then head west for a few more miles.
More to follow. i'm putting the kid to sleep

I am much enjoying these postings about my idea of a drive westward to visit Yosemite. Your personal experiences and opinions will be a treasure of information upon which to base any decision in this regard. Thanks again to those offering me such solid information.

I am a bit dubious about getting too near large cities along the way, considering how so many (?) of them have become hellholes of crime and violence.
