Most Beautiful Locomotives

The above loco shown by Murph is a model 4-S built by Ingalls Shipbuilding of Pascagoula, Mississippi in 194s.
The only loco built by Ingalls and it was sold to the G, M & O.
The photo of the front makes it look a little better.

Although I am a PRR fan I do NOT like that streamlined version.

I don't especially like that streamlined PRR K-4, either. However, Loewy evolved it through wind-tunnel testing.Compensates, sort of. Most of the other streamlined designs seem to have come out of arts colleges; some work, some don't.

PRR had several K-4s streamlined later that were nicer looking to me.

A very pleasant gentleman, on OGR Forum, Brian, posted this today. It amazed me because I never saw any real-life photo of this engine, other than pictures of it as a model. I suspect some might consider this engine as beautiful, so I've borrowed it and am sharing it here for you, Roy.

If you like traction engines and trains, these should be a natural.

I've seen photos of black British locos, but I think they were limited to the post-nationalized British Railways, and then, used only on freight trains. As I recall, they still had colorful pinstriping.

I wasn't able to find much, on similar locomotives here in the U.S.

What you showed us was nice to see, since they reminded us of when the whole phenomenon of steam locomotives began. Like with such other marvels, such as the automobile and the airplane, it is absolutely amazing when we see the results of the creative, inventive human intellect on its way to something new four our world.
