Re: 2019 Train show.
I did have an odd experience. I had a Scalecraft(?) two-rail PRR K4 that I wanted $250 for at several shows and no one even asked about it. I went to a NJ show {hosted by Loco Workshop(?) I think} and put $350 on it; less than fifteen minutes after I set it out it sold for the sticker price!

If they get too aggressive tell them: I can marl it up twenty bucks if you aren't happy with the current price. Have fun, it's not life of death.

There are guys that if you were to put a $100 bill on the table for sale at $10 will ask if you will take $1 for it.
After a few years of that it gets really old.
I recall my good friend Gordon Hinkle had a car marked at $50.00 at York and it didn't sell the first day.
The next day he marked it $75.00 and sold it for $65.00.
I tried that strategy this past weekend and got what I had it marked earlier.
At the local train shows the quibblers are the ones who know at least a little about it.

I'm terrible at selling at shows. I usually under price stuff. Mainly because I don't want to haul it home. I do like to bundle stuff for folks and even give a car away to kids. I look at it this way, if someone wants something for their layout then I'll get it to them at a good price. I'm not looking to make a big profit.

I am very generous or try to be to the young set when at meets - last year I sold a large wood 2-stall engine house that I had built for far less than cost (like for the cost of the paint on it) since I could see that the lad really wanted it and that if I sold it for a song, that his mother was willing to let her boy come home with a real prize. I give away other stuff to kids.

I think when we do this type of thing it helps the hobby. Hopefully they return in the future.

Exactly. But just the short-term reward of watching a happy lad with a happy Mom departing with their prize made the day worth while.

Once again I agree. Watching the eyes "light up" is worth what one might have received for the piece.
