Glue question

Postby G3750 » Sat Nov 03, 2018 12:35 pm

All:

I need to glue some brick paper (printed on regular 8.5" x 11" sheets) to a wooden board. I'm concerned about getting the paper wet and having it run or look blotchy.

Any recommendations for this?

Thanks,

George

1st - test to see if there is basis for your concerns - very dependent on type of ink, sealed or not, and type of glue. Try gluing a bit using Elmer's or regular Carpenter's glue - use as much as you really need which is actually very, very little.

If that proves acceptable - done.

If not, try one of the spray adhesives masking the rest of the surface. Don't overdo these as well......

Could also use any of the solvent based contact cements.
Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.

I have printed interior walls on 8.5 x 11 Shipping Labels, then stuck 'em on the walls. I don't know why this wouldn't work for you. I also did the interior window framing and flooring this way.

Probably because they will dry out over time and peel off?

All:

Thank you very much for the information. I will file it away for later use.

I ended up using Aileen's Tacky Glue. It seems to be working.

Of the hundreds of boxes that I have with shipping labels on them, absolutely none have ever dried up and peeled off. I can't even peel one of them off in one piece.

Interesting. What brand are they? The labels I have are dry on the backing and falling off before I can even use them.

I've been using Loctite GO2 for a while now for various projects. The stuff seems to work brilliantly, but its shelf-life, once opened, seems terribly short. I'm lucky if the contents stay liquid for more than three months, in the small plastic bottle. At ~ $6 a pop, that's a bit irritating.

Second Glue Question: I have some styrene that I want to hold in place temporarily, i.e. not destroy the pieces when I separate them. Any suggestions for this?

Thanks,

George
